Title: Feature Request?
Post by: MP-Ryan on January 18, 2008, 06:59:57 pm
I've been thinking about this for a while.

It would be fan-freakingtastic if the Track Object key actually did something in FreeSpace.  Specifically, I'm thinking it would be a great way to keep tabs on certain ships without actually having them targeted.  Then, you wouldn't have to constantly add and flip through ships in the escort list.

Anything like that in the works?

What do you mean by track object? Are you talking about keeping your view locked on a target?

I'm currently working on implementing a control that'll allow the player to keep his eyes on the target. I'm not sure if that's what you mean, so it's best if you elaborate on the feature you want.

maybe he was just talking about putting a targeting reticle around it all the time, like asteroids.

Essentially, multiple targeting (without detail).  You could tie it to your escort list so you get targeting brackets (but not missile locks or weapons reticules) around all ships on your escort list.  It'd be a really handy way to keep tabs on multiple vessel all at once so you know what you're looking for.

You can have those white brackets by binding ships with F5-F12 keys (in the menu under F3) and then pressing binded key. Unfortunately they'll vanish when you target anything else.
