heh.. the club is just a short heavy beater (1/2" PVC core) to strengthen my arm and make me get better at close quarters that i was using last fall.. soon as i can go to theisens i'm getting some 1/2" fiberglass and making a nice light sword for real arsewippin

also need to make a tierdrop shield

Looks like good fun :) If anything like that actually existed around here, I might be tempted to join the fun - I've always been facinated with medieval stuff.

So there are other people here who spend their free time learning martial arts.

I'm not really familiar with how one uses the European broadsword or a long sword. Also, what are the weights of those weapons? I recall reading they were designed to be a little more heavier so one could club the adversary with them, but this might be totally wrong.
Also, about the use of the weapons, when hitting, does one use mainly shoulder strength or the combination of hands, hips and legs?

My personal preference would be double battle axes (or clubs if you will), each weighting 10 kgs. Let's see how long I need to train short sticks before I get that far.

I went to a Larp meet once, they needed people who could actually fire the padded arrows and get them to at least land somewhere near the opposing forces :)

It's good being an Archer, you get light armour and get to stand still while everyone else is running around. Better still, if anyone with a big axe gets near you, you just 'skirmish' (Run like buggery).

Is it sheer chance that the societies name is an (almost) anagram of Belgarath?

this isn't a larp... though there are some RP-elements (non human races) they are for the most part not important

Ty is dating one of our centurions.. Aldonis - he has the mighty Wallet of Mystical Aquisition.  It's his special attack... he throws his wallet at you, and if it hits you it liquidates your assets and transfers the proceeds to his account :P

real swords were fairly light - i only remember the weight restrictions on 1 handed ("blue") weapons for belegarth - if it's over 24" it must weight atleast 12 ounces... under 24" there is no minimum weight.  I dunno if there is technically a maximum weight, but something too heavy probably would get failed at weapons check.  Well constructed long swords that some people i know use have to have weight added to their pommels to pass weigh-in

oh.. i also have a bow and arrows being a ranger.. but i normally don't use them - my wife will be part of our archery squad.  when i bow in big battles i normally either just start with my bow in hand spend my ammo and drop my bow.. or i pick up an "undamaged" bow off a dead person and grab arrows of the ground.

To be honest, they don't call it larp either, they call it 'Historical Battle Recreation', since they do all Norman Vs Saxon stuff etc, anyone turning up dressed as an Elf would, I admit, probably get dunked in the lake ;)

we get an entire huge number of golbinoid races, and they have some pretty awesome scrap-armor (ie armor made from scraps... looks in character) on the field..... they even have their own version of knights - Mekoot (Headhunter)

most of the Mekhoot are ganglefreaks though so it's bithing hard to kill them... got a chick in our realm who is a Mek (their equiv of a Squire) and will soon be the first female Mekoot that i know of... she's *****ing good - she dances around the field quite literally.
