Title: Requesting something ...
Post by: ShadowGorrath on January 24, 2008, 02:09:51 pm
... that might get me beat up for asking .

I would like to know if there are any models for FS2 of futuristic versions of modern day fighters we have now ( I mean - current 21st age fighters , but with some sort of "upgrades" that add them a sci-fi factor and that it looks like it can fly in space ) ? I kinda need them , but can't find any .

Also , can someone tell me if there is somewhere I can get a background image ( or just a regular picture , but an image with an alpha channel around it would be better ) of a cracked/damaged Moon ( in a quite large size , of course ) ? Like this one :

It's not urgent , for now . If I decide to quit working on one mod I consider making , then I won't need this stuff . But if I got it , it would convince me to make it .

All info about it is classified level Omega

Ssmit132 (or was he Ssmit32? I don't remember) has converted some airplanes model from the freeware flight sim YsFlight, maybe you can ask him for them. The problem is they are quite low-poly, and they don't have sci-fi-esque upgrades. Also, he never received permission to use them from the original authors (I sent the various permission e-mail myself, and never got any answer).

If you have X-Plane, some time ago Herra Tohtori told me how to convert X-Plane models for use in Blender, so you may also try that way (you may also use the built-in airplane editor to add the upgrades). I remember converting the Eurofighter Typhoon to .cob, but never imported it in FS2, and now I removed X-Plane from my hard disk...

Not even models that are inspired by our current modern-day fighters ? Damn ...

I guess I'll have to use the only models I can find on hades-combine or sectorgame . But they really don't fit with the theme I'm going for ...  :(

Though I hope that someone has that kind of models , as I'd really need them .

There's a very Warthog-esque fighter that someone modeled. Search for the Thunderbolt.

DoGA L1 http://www.doga.co.jp/english/ has a bunch of parts that might work. The best format DoGA exports to is for DirectX. Fortunately the free version of Metasequoia can read DirectX and (IIRC) export to COB.

But to make good use of most of the DoGA parts will require rebuilding them. They have plenty of parts with faces missing and one sided polygons hanging out in the breeze.

A while back I posted some DoGA parts I'd rebuilt, but I expect the attachments to the posts have been deleted by now.

Edit: Metasequoia can't read DirectX format but it can directly open DoGA's .suf format and export to .cob

Yes, I really need to try asking them for permission again. The planes I had are variously low- and high-poly, but they were 'vanilla' - they were just stock. There were no additions to their original guise.

Current version of the Moon :

It is in a higher quality and with an alpha channel , when in TGA format . But the whole image needs to be reworked anyway .

Mig-37 foxbat
The Foxbat is the MiG-25. The MiG-37 should have been codenamed Ferret :p *runs*

Um ... Those ships that I downloaded from your thread , and put into my FS2 , all have issues with their cockpits . Some of them makes it so that you can see the interior of the model , which shouldn't be seen ( the whole inside of the model ) , while others don't even have a cockpit , but instead a sad pilot sitting on-top of where there should have been a cockpit . And one capital ship has the same issue .

Out of 8 ships , only 1 ship doesn't have that issue .

You think that might be why he's upgrading them? :doubt:

*cough* HERC3 *cough*

BTW Ssmit132, can you do M$ FS? I got half a dozen things for the SRW thing I was trying to do, but never got permision replies back and never figured out how to extract them.

Did you grab the additional.vp files in the first post?  It contains all the textures that get reused over and over again, including cockpits.

I'm not sure, since I don't know how to convert FlightSim aircraft, and I don't have any addons for FS 2002 (The newest one I have).

Ok then ... I didn't ... Hehe ... Thanks  :nervous:

If anyone is interested , I will probably be posting a few pics of the mod pretty soon .

I'll be redoing that too, dividing it up into required textures and optional other stuff too eventually.

I'll probably edit some of the textures on them anyway. If you don't mind, that is.

Since it's my first mod ( this , and my currently un-released update to SAH ) , and it's made up out of other people stuff,  am trying to be careful for not breaking anyone's copyright of their stuff.
