Title: Young adult female voice available
Post by: Lira on January 24, 2008, 10:58:21 pm
Hello, all! Although I'm new to HLP, I've been a geeky Freespace fan for quite some time since I watched my older brother play the original Freespace when I was younger. As it is, I do some amateur voice acting in my (rarer and rarer...) free time; I found Goober5000's Silent Threat casting call on the Voice Acting Alliance, of which I'm a member, and although he couldn't offer me a role-- alas, I can't do the in-high-demand older, authoritative middle-aged woman's voice-- he pointed me this way and I'll list my services here anyway.

Basic info:

Name: Lira
Typical roles: Teenage, child, singing
More likely useable for mods/campaigns: mid-20's female voice, a.k.a. "the hyper wing(wo)man voice"
Incidentally, I'm a college student, but my normal speaking voice is rather high. Alas.
Contact: on request

I fully intend to make a much better demo-- some of these lines aren't to my normal standard-- but I put this together in the past few minutes to give anyone here a vague idea of my voice range. Here's a quick-and-sloppy run through my range:

http://media.putfile.com/Demo-thrown-together-quickly

In order:
1) Miscellaneous space-sim officer
2) Child
3) Teen
4) Perky young adult
5) Young woman
6) Distressed woman
7) Sarcastic older teen

If anyone would like to give me lines to sample and a voice tone/description in which to do them, I could put together a demo of those, as well. As an old Freespace fan, I'd be more than happy to be part of any campaign! Cheers!

Not a bad voice there.
You're right about more older and authorative voiced being in higher demand, but I bet there's a lot of projects that would need a younger sounding voice too.

Hehe..once FOW2 nears completion, maybe I'll be asking for your services ;)

Nice stuff. :) I'm guessing you'll be in rather high demand, as we seem to have a sadly low number of representatives of your gender around these parts.

re: Topgun: I think so...  :wtf:

re: TrashMan: I'm not a current anime fan, but I find that expression appropriate. Often.  :p

re: General Battuta: Thank you!

re: Mongoose: Not complaining. I'm more than happy to find an outlet for my Freespace pining-- it took me years of wishing there was a Freespace 3 before I realized, thanks to my brother, that there were umpteen fan campaigns out there. Since I'm a terrible player, I'm glad I can possibly contribute this way!

From Site Statistics:
Male to Female Ratio: 81.4:1

Ya think?

You can already see why from just this topic alone...

Yeah... females that come to this forums get suffocated by the sheer geeknes and craziness of these forums. I mean, honestly..It's like one waltzed into a nuthouse chatroom

TrashMan, I think that "nuthouse chatroom" describes the Internet in general much better than previous best-defined statements "Not a Big Truck" and "A Series of Tubes". Hats off to you sir. :p

Anyway, let us welcome the latest statistical anomaly to our midst with a song that often comes to me mind when on the Internets. This time, specifically adapted to fit the occasion. Let's see if you know the song... ;)

Welcome to the Hard Light
We got fun 'n' games
We got everything you want
Honey we know the names
We are the people that can find
Whatever you may need
If you got the money honey
We got your disease

(...)

Welcome to the Hard Light
It gets worse here everyday
Ya learn ta live like an animal
In the Hard Light where we play
If you got a hunger for what you see
You'll take it eventually
You can have anything you want
But you better not take it from me!

:welcome:

Are you guys familiar with the concept of 'stereotype threat'? Be careful about creating self-fulfilling prophecies. As far as I'm concerned, she's just another member.

Lira, I've got a friend who's interested in Freespace. She's registered here, though she mostly just lurks (and never signs in to her account). She'd probably be happy to do voice acting work along with you. She's a bit older, so she might be able to tackle some different niches than you.

I'll try to get her in touch.

See, when females show up, the whole forum goes goo-goo-gaa-gaa.

Outstanding.

On that note, I might need a couple of lines from you for something soon.

I wasn't asking for it. -holds hands up- And if that happens by sheer virtue of my gender, well. Bleh.

And I'd be glad to record a couple. I really should update that demo and finish the last batch of lines that was sent to me.

I'll send you PM later depending on your response.

I noticed you are not an anime fan. That's unfortunate cause when I heard your demo I had to contact you.

Your Demo lines 3,4, and 5 are almost exactly what I need to fill THREE ROLES! ( Yes you heard me. three diff people)

Dammit Trashman, you've keep her from me! Are you insane? (Can you not hear Sammy, Kim, and Vanessa in her voices?)

Lira, as you have no clue as to who I am mentioning, they are Three Bridge officers of a Capital ship called the Macross. The Project is called: Robotech Mod II. The first was more of a tool set and I have expanded it and want to actually flesh out a campaign and missions. I had several done for retail but they don't work with Open so I have started from scratch.

If your interested [over the next year I will be working on a script and replacing the current voices I use (the DVD ones) with Mod voice actors. This time frame should not interfere with what your doing now.

Just some info for you:

Sammy Porter is a hyper blond who is 'girly'. (your voice 3)  ;)

Kim (?forgot) is pretty standard. (voice 4)

Vanessa Leads is ultra serious of the three (voice 5)

They are about the same age and graduated from the academy together as young officers.

If you want more details, pics, and voice clips I will get them for you later on as your project time allows.
This was just an initial inquiry of interest.

At the moment, my life is kinda hectic (just got my last batch of WSCP lines in, apologies for the gross delay) so I can't really say I could do all three roles for sure but I'd love to help with one if you needed it.

The acting in my little demo is pretty ****tacular, but I'm glad it gave you a decent idea of voice range.

No problem, I wouldn't tap you for quite a while yet.
When I heard your demo I had to contact you now though (if you had heard the sources you'd see how well they match).

Those three roles are very dialog light, combined would probably equal one main Wing Commander role.
You can expect me to make another inquiry to you in about 6-8 months and check in as to your status, so if it's ok I'd like to pencil you in as probable but not locked in? If you decline then I'll open them up again.

Sure; I'd be honored. If you encounter any other good voice actresses, feel free to scout them as well. Playing three different emotions comes naturally, but making each sound like a distinct and separate voice is more difficult. Good luck! :)
