Title: I'm New
Post by: Fencer on January 25, 2008, 01:36:53 pm
Hello, I'm new—both to this forum and to Descent: FreeSpace.  I obtained the game as well as the Battle Pack.  I am beginning to play my way through.  Since I installed from the original CD, what do I need to do or know before I get too far in?  All suggestions are welcome.

Hi there! I reccomend Turey's Installer (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,42854.0.html) if you're interested in the multitude of upgrades made to the game here. It's very handy... and prevents me from having to give a huge spiel on how to install stuff!  :D

If you have any questions, I direct your attention towards Karajorma's FAQ (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/karajorma/FAQ/intro.html)... or just ask around. We're nice people (in general). ;)

Damn, you beat me to it. Nonetheless, do also visit Useful Stuff (link in my signature) after you've installed FSO to get some extra content and random fixes.

Just in case it isn't clear they're both on about FS2 and FS2_Open (An open source improvement for the game).

The installer also includes the FS1 port which means you can play FS1 with upgraded graphics too.

"Thank you" to Dark Hunter, Lobo, karajorma, and Mad Bomber.  I've got some reading to do, before I begin installing and return to playing.  Note:  The Vasuda.ogg link in Useful Stuff returned "The Webpage cannot be found."

Oh yeah. It'll do that since I don't have enough free space there to host it at the moment, but I haven't remembered to update the page accordingly. And, as far as I know, the cutscene still has some format issues that prevent it from playing in-game.
