Iraq vet has Bluetooth-stabilized prosthetic legs (http://www.cnn.com/2008/TECH/01/25/bluetooth.legs/index.html).
-
why does it need bluetooth? why couldn't this have been done with wires?

So he doesn't have wires beteen his legs.
Incidentally, i read this as a vetinarian from iraq inventing prosthetic legs for dogs or something all the way up until I actually opened the article. Hard to say which would actually have een cooler...

Very much so, albeit only over extremely short distances (3-10m). But Bluetooth is already ubiquitous and extremely cheap, and there are relatively few devices that need high bandwidth wireless links, so I can't see it being replaced.

Sony had an interesting variety of wireless usb being reported as in development a week back or so. It uses induction rather than an antenna (Don't ask me exactly what that means :p) which means that it only has an effective range of about 3cm or 3 inches. Basically what it means is that it's more practical to just be able to set things down on another device and have them sync up, rather than dealing with the issues of Bluetooth passcodes and such.
