This would be a good spot for the Halo 3 "Believe"

While it would be nice to have a new game that is close to the original gameplay I have mixed feeling about the news.
What I fear is that there would be less sim and more action gameplay in it. WC had a nice mix of sim and action. The development of Arena with its "Look I have an endless number of missiles" isn't a development I like that much. Also the loss of the cockpit view, the very colorfull presentation and stuff.

Well I will just hope the best but fear the worst.....a pessimist as allways ^_^

Well I hope its true and if it is true I hope EA sticks to Origin's WC formula.  The last thing I want to see is another WC Arena with CGI cutscenes instead of live action FMVs.

Check again, people, it's not under development by EA (thank God).

Why is that any good? Arena wasn't developed by EA and it didn't made it better.

As for CGI or Actors. If they can provide and ingame quality of lets say Crysis I don't realy care. When I land, step outside of my fighter, walk around the flightdeck and see people running around and I can interact with them and all without loading stuff and in the quality the Cryengine provides...well I could very well live with it.
The other thing is and that might be a point why EA should do it, is that real actors and probs and everything that goes with "real" costs a lot money most likely no other company has (and is holding he licens to Wing Commander).
So if you want real actors you better hope that EA is doing it or at least sponsoring the development.

Beside that with the new C&C, at least in my opinion, EA showed that they can revive an old classic game with the same strength and sadly weaknesses, of the original and add very nice, high quality (technical) cutscenes with real actors.

As a lifelong Wing Commander addict (one of the dwindling numbers that can claim to have played the original when it first came out), I of course would like to see it revived. But I want to see it done right. I personally don't agree with the argument for the design concept of Arena. You're not retooling the game to a new generation. This new generation doesn't have a game to compare it to. Not in the same broadscale way. I'd be satisfied (read: not thrilled, but satisfied) with a console version, but the gameplay formula must really stay true for it to be succesfull. Another game like Arena would just be a budget title with disappointing results.  :blah:

I can only hope, that a PC version will be available. I love Wing Commander, I really do. But I don't want to spend 500 Euro for a gaming console plus another thousand on a HDD ready TV and another 200 on additional equipment just for one game. I'd rather buy a new pc.

True, true.
I am not owning a TV...ok the small 15" TV I have but I refuse to call that a real TV screen.
I just hope that it won't be an Arena 2.

Another importend thing...what timeline do you guess would it play in?
WC3 would be hard since all the Actors are now quite a bit older and won't
fit into their roles very well. Ok maybe if Blair would now be an Admiral...or Maniac.
I would love to see Maniac in the Admirals chair ^_^

I would say its most likely the Nephilim war or after it.
Continueing after Prophecy or after the War during the Arena timeline.
Looking at how much work Gaia put into the manual and other stuff they
did for the development of Arena I would place my bet more on the Arena timeline.

Timeline being discussed here http://www.crius.net/zone/showthread.php?t=23104 (http://www.crius.net/zone/showthread.php?t=23104).
As for new generation fans, WC was born shortly before I was, and I still want to see a new space sim not an Arena repeat. And for FMV, C&C proved itself, so I think it's a good possibility.

Not by much, just a couple of months.

Interesting...I'll believe this when I see the press release.  Still...my feeling for a little while now is that the sci-fi space shooter genre is about ready for a revival just like RPG's were revived several years ago.  How its revived and if its anything like the way we expected it to be is another issue altogether.  I'd still prefer to fly with a stick rather than mouse.

. Surfer Girl does seem to be the real deal - we can confirm that the information she posted on FreeLancer 2 several months ago is absolutely genuine.
:D

Oh, but, um, wing commander is cool too. Yeah  :nervous:

I'm fairly certain that the Freelancer 2 information was just trivia on the now-canceled Freelancer 2 project, not any hint that it's still going.

Sorry.
