Title: Possible special hits problem?

Every so often I come across a mission where a ship has 0 hull and is disabled.  Special hits are always enabled on the ship and when you look at it in FRED it shows 0 for both hull and shields.  Opening up the mission in notepad the special hits variables are usually there and most of the time there are multiple sets but the variable number does not match the one listed for the ship.  I don't know if it's caused by editing the values or trying to remove the special hits from the ship.  Never actually had it happen in one of my missions (never even used it)  only seen it in ones I'm testing.  It's also impossible to fix in FRED.  Requires deleting the variables and reentering the values in FRED. 

Now I have messed up before and deleted the variables which causes the same problem but this is not what is happening here.  I did open up a Mantis report about it not checking the values on mission save when I did that.  Come to think of it maybe I should add this problem to that report.

I had a similar problem and when I asked for a solution I got a "Yeah, it's always someone else's fault" or something similar and the closure of the thread.

In addition to what you said, sometimes ships share their special hitpoints variables. I don't like a Megaera with the same HPs of a Zagreus, to be honest...
