Hi,
I'm learning to fred and trying to follow the TBP tutorial written by Lady Rose.
Actually I'm stuck in part1 : Raider pursue freighter where I must add an SEXP for the Arrival Cue on the EAS Turmoil and both Zephyr wings. In fact, only the EAS Turmoil has the Arrival Cue available, and I'm not allowed to add SEXP for fighter wing.
Must I do something to activate the Arrival Cue for small ship ( starfury, zephyr, ....) or find another way?
Please help !!!!
Thanks a lot.

Create an event and use "is-event-true-delay" as arrival condition :)

Hi,
Thank you a lot for helping me but... would you please be more specific. :)
In fact I've also thought of this but I'm new to FRED2 and I cannot find the operator for the arrival of a ship.
I'm trying to use : When ---> is-event-true-delay--->zephyr arrival
But I can't solve the zephyr arrival part.
-
Click on the ship and use the "is-event-true-delay" formula as arrival clue. Replace the default "true" with the condition you want...
-
Well, as I see, the arrival cue is gray and I can't modify it (only fighters have that problem, large ships don't).
I've tried to start building a new map and this problem disappeared .
Thanks for your help.

Hmmmm. I'm not sure what you're actually trying to do.
1) You're trying to set an arrival cue so that Zephyr Wing will arrive in the mission - If a ship is in a wing you must set the arrival cue for the entire wing not each individual ship. Select one of the ships and open the Wings Editor instead of the Ship Editor you used to set up the EAS Turmoil.
2) You're trying to set up an event that triggers when the EAS Turmoil and Zephyr wing have arrived and you can only select one of the ships - What you need to do is to right click on the has-arrived SEXP and choose Add Data. You'll then be allowed to add those ships or wings you want to.

It must be a wing...read Karajorma's point 1.

Yes thank both of you !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's the wing editor, not the ship editor !!!!!!!
Sorry for my English, actually I live in France.
Best regards

And now I have another question: how to manipul0ate beam weapon ?
Yes I know that we must unlock all beam weapon, and I did so. But the problem is that the ship fired beam only one time, in the second time it looked like that the ship didn't have enough energy to fire beam again.
Please, this thing is not mentioned in the tutorial and I don't have any idea.
Thanks in advance.

which ship are you talking about? shadow ships have a long recharge time.
-
No, it's an EAS Nova (mentioned in the tutorial).
I really want to know how to deal with those "recharge time", I want something like this:
fire the first beam
wait until weapon is recharged
fire the second beam
wait until weapon is recharged
and so on.....
until the target is destroyed.
Is there anyway to realize this? Please, show me which operator I must use, thanks a lot.

The game should do that automatically. Are you sure that the enemy target was always within the ship's field of view. If you simply gave the EAS Nova attack orders it would fairly quickly move to a position where it couldn't fire forward guns at the enemy target.
That's why capship battles should be scripted manually rather than simply giving both sides attack orders.

So now I understand. It's because the two ships take position parallel to each other and cannot fire their weapon.
Ok, now the next question: how to know which turret is beam turret ?
I mean that if I want turret01 to be beam turret , I just have to put a beam weapon into this turret, or there are only some specific turrets that work with beam weapon ?
And... how to know the position of one certain turret on the ship ? For example: To know where is turret05 in the model of EA Nova, what must I do?
I know that those are very stupid questions, but, please, I've just begun fredding and maybe someday I can make a good campaign for TBP.
Good luck to all of you.
-
Highlight the ship in FRED and press k to target the turrets. The name of each one shows up with it's position. If you turn on show ship models you can also see the firing direction.
-
change the height of the waypoints and the ship. that way then they pass one another, the turrets of the bottom/top can target it ;)
if you haven't added waypoints, I recommend that you do!

Thanks for all your help.
I've just tried to apply what I had learned from all of you. It's very simple and stupid but it shows that I have made progress :D.
