Yo-ho, yo-ho, a pirates life for me! We pillage, we plunder; we sink and we steal, drink UP ME HEARTIES YO-HO!!!
now that that's outta my system, has anyone ever made a campaign were you play as a swashbucklin' pirate?
-
I think it would be hard to swashbuckle in a fighter. :arrr: "ARR! Fear my mighty figher-mounted sword" :p
-
Fortune Hunters 2259 is a pirate campaign, tho it's for TBP. It'll have a sequel soon, I heard.
For FS... can't think of any off the top of my head. However, my campaigns (ETF and Exodus), tho not directly related, will have the player operate well outside GT(V)A naval structure.
Not pirating really, but I figured I could sneak in a plug. ;)
-
Hmm. Just take a campaign, replace all missiles with swords, run all dialogue through some english-pirate translator and there you go: a pirate campaign. Oh, and add a parrot somewhere, preferrably on a 'shoulder' of your fighter.

You play as mercs in Homesick
-
But you aren't pillaging the seven seas in Homesick. You are getting paid for doing a job.

Fortune Hunters. A Babylon Project campaign by Vidmaster.
-
but they may not be what he is expecting, the Hunters are not your typical pirates.
Inspired by characters like the gentleman-air pirate Nathan Zachary from the first Crimson Skies game for PC (hell, I even named the Hunters after his gang :) because I love it so much), Nym and his friends in the StarWars Starfighter series or Malcom Reynolds from Serenity, the Hunters just try to make a living but won't hesitate to do the right thing.
I guess he wants to be EEEEVVVVIIIILLLLL :mad2: :mad2: :mad2:
EDIT: just noticed that MadBomber "heard" that there will be a sequel. I STRONGLY doubt that he heard that. He may have READ this :D Almost finished, doing the final tweaking with the help of FUBAR.

Merc and pirates fall in the same catagory to me. Merc=Privateer -> hired and paid pirate.
My three catagories
Civilian - what it says
Military - again self-exlanatory - Also includes rebel militaries like HoL, NTF, rebel Alliance (Starwars)
Pirate/Merc - also includes Terrorist cells

Merc ≠ Pirate ≠ Terrorist.
Merc: Is hired and does whatever the employer asks to do, as long as the price is right. Might act against the law if it is needed for completing a given assignment.
Pirate: Makes profit by plundering other people either at sea or in space. Uses loot for own purposes or sells to someone who needs it. Explicitly breaks laws.
Terrorist: Causes fear and panic among normal people through acts of terror, including kidnappings, bomb threats, bombings and such. Don't get paid for doing said things.

mmmmm to simple
mercs can be terrorists/or freedom fighters dependng on which side of the fence your sitting
pirates can be pacifists
terrorists can be freedom fighters
it all depends
-
But the point is that mercs are hired and paid by someone, while pirates and terrorists are not.
-
I consider myself a pirate too, although I don't plunder and kill ;7
-
Basically my 3 catagories are
1) Civillian
2) Military
3) Non-alligned/Other
-
The difference between a merc and a pirate is that a pirate kills his suppliers, and a merc just cheats them.
I have a recurring desire to make a campaign where you're flying with RNI Shipyard's corporate security forces. It's currently tied up in my desire to make a sort of boxed set of campaigns that are the same story from different points of view.
-
REAL pirates don't kill the people they steal from, usually they would even give them free and safe transit back home, and in some cases, ransom the officers.
-
There was an FS1 campaign called hellwolf that was about a pirate clan. I have it converted to use the FSPort. Its the only campaign other than the Babylon 5 campaign previously mentioned that I know of being about pirates.
