Title: gray beard
Post by: Fearless Leader on February 07, 2008, 11:07:19 am
Since I was 13 and started needing to shave every day I have stayed clean shaven, the longest I usually go with out shaving is usually just Saturday and Sunday, but recently I let my face hair grow out for about a week and was surprised to find that I have a lot of white hair in it.
If this happened later in life I would have no problem with it, but Im only 20, my dad doesnt even have gray hair yet!
I have the urge to grow a beard and walk around telling people my age about how it was "back in my day"

Is it bad to look a lot older? I know there is some way I can use it to my advantage, but how?

I used to have ginger hair in my beard, and not a single member of my family has ginger hair, which was always odd....

Of course, it's grey now :(

Every day at 13?  Sounds like you hit puberty hard and fast.  I'm not surprised you're already seeing grey hair.  :p

Chicks dig the old guy look. Just don't start telling them "Back in my day we had..." stories and you'll be fine.

The hair on my lower lip is blonde and my mustache is kind of lighter too. No idea why.

You sure poppa wasn't the milkman or the mailman?

At any rate, I never really heard of using a beard to make yourself look older, maybe it helps if you like to drink or smoke, other than that, it's all arbitrary.

My finance has a few strands silver in her hair and she is 20, they really stick out though with her long dark hair.  Her mom and sister has it way worse. ;-)

 Oddly enough, my Nan used to make exactly the same joke.

I've never really considered a beard a sign of age so much as a sign that I couldn't be bothered to shave that week to be honest, besides, with a hairline like mine, I just end up looking like Ming the Merciless when I grow it, so I tend to be clean shaven.

I grew my beard expressly to look older and worthy in the eyes of bank managers, CEO's, etc so they would finally fracking listen to my advice.

Until I was mid-30's I kinda look 17 otherwise. Great when you are older for the "chicks digging the young looking guy" terrible if you are trying to convince a banker to spend 100k on your services.

If I had his problem at that age, I would have bought more beer.

Grew my beard when I was 18 so I could look old enough to by beer.  Still have it to this day.  By hair is brown my beard is red.  Hair on the rest or my body varies too.  Some is blond, some is red and some is brown.  No gray yet.  Getting bald but no gray.

Damn right! I can't walk thru a mall without a bunch of women coming over to start up conversations. And they'll use any excuse at all. I've had 'em say things like "why are you standing there?" and "You look really hot! (Do need need to sit down)?" Last week, I was in a health food store and one of the clerks walked over. She had a aerobic-trainer type body and kinda thrust it at me. Said "You look like you could use some of this!". I said, "Hell yeah" but she musta misunderstood, cause all she did was hand me a jar of Colonblow SuperFibre that she happened to be carrying and walk off...

Looking old - there's nothing like it!  :D

Beards DO make you look older. Lots of people have been surprised when they see me and find out that I'm only 22 (gonna be 23 in 13 days :D). A little bit of graying is okay though; makes you look more mature and while certainly not common at your age it isn't uncommon either. Just expect to start loosing hair earlier than expected XP

I'm half tempted to put up a photo of me with my beard untied, but would probably be mistaken for a terrorist if I do XP

I don't have a beard, but people seriously almost never get my age right. They either think I am older or younger.

Because they aren't used to judging the age of a white man. :p

I'm becoming more and more tempted to just shave my head for the summer to be honest, fortunately for me, I'm not getting 'monk hair', but still, the receeding hairline gets on my nerves sometimes....

Edit: My biggest fear is that I'd end up looking like the frontman for REM.
