Title: Weapons
Post by: starlord on February 08, 2008, 02:15:11 am
This is perhaps non topic, but I'm woundering if among the babylon 5 weapons, there is a cap ship massdriver spinal mount? I would like to Know that because in the renegade legion, cap ships sport spinal mounts capable of throwing huge chunks of metal (referred to as crowbars) at near relativistic speed. I think the effect should be different than a freespace large beam, is it not?

Well... I just looked it up in FRED and the Secundus does have a weapon called "CR Mass Driver". I didn't see it fire ingame so far though.
But I don't know what you mean with "spinal mounted".

Yeah! Spinal Tap! :mosh:

Oh wait. Sorry. I think he meant this (http://traveller.wikia.com/wiki/Spinal_Mount).

Ship is sort of build around the weapon rather than weapon being build into the ship. In a way you could probably say that A-10 Thunderbolt has a spinal mount given the size and placement of the firing mechanism of the weapon and the barrels.

The Secundus (our name) as seen in The Long Twilight Struggle has a mass driver for throwing small asteroids. Unfortunately the weapon isn't hugely impressive to see in action in TBP.

In that case, unless I find best, I'll revert to the large FS2 beams: After all, it is said that the crowbars are aimed in a plasma chamber, and since they are travelling at near relativistic speeds, even though it's a mass driver, it might have the effect of such a beam. The only thing is instead of piercing through a ship's armour, there should be an explosion, but if necessary, we'll make abstraction of that fact.

Yes we could do that. Then it would look even less impressive and even less like the orignal weapon seen in the series. Honestly we didn't make any effort to make the weapon look as good as possible. I don't think anyone ever bothered to playtest it. We are very slap dash. We just threw something together in 5 minutes but now you say it, it's obvious you have come to our rescue and have the answer. Thanks heavens for you.

Unfortunately since this is not a bug I will not be making this modification to TBP.  :(

No, no: no mistake: I meant for the renegade legion MOD. I'm not the one to tell you what you're going to do with your MOD, now am I?
