Hey, all. Quite a long while ago, I decided that I couldn't stand listening to the segmented audio clips of Descent: FreeSpace...so I compiled them together to make full-length soundtracks. I've uploaded them here (http://cid-78eece80a0658c61.skydrive.live.com/browse.aspx/FreeSpace), so feel free to download them. Note, however, that Mission 9 is missing, as I haven't finished compiling it yet.
All compilations were done using the Sound Recorder Accessory.
...I sure hope there aren't any strings attached to them... :nervous:

Sounds neat. Post when mission 9 is done though. Freespace had a very fitting soundtrack. I still hum it every once in a while.
-
I have some of the best on my iPod and m8_nrml3 as my text alert! How addicted am I?!

Mission 9 has been compiled and uploaded. Go and get it if you must. :drevil:

Quite, I would say. I've got the Silent Threat theme, as well as my compilations of Missions 1 to 3, 5 to 8 and 10, on my portable music player.
Once I run its battery down, I'll probably add in the compilation of the other two missions.

Kewl, not bad :)
-
I think that's awesome!
-
This is great, I have the demo soundtrack from the Volition website, but it doesn't even compare to the actual music all compiled together. Thanks man, this is awesome. This should be stickied somewhere for all to behold and marvel.
All the good old memories. I used to play Darkness Rising repeatedly over and over for at least 10 tens before I finally got my hands on an actual copy of Freespace on EBay. This was before SCP so EBay was my best bet.

Any chance you could upload the Silent Threat theme?

Hmm...if I'm not wrong, the Silent Threat theme is known as FAIL1.WAV. That can be extracted from the FS1 or FSPort data files using VPVIEW32 (http://download.descent-network.com/descman/modules/vpview.w32/vpvw20b5.exe), so it's not necessary.
-
Man, I'd just like to say thanks Androgeos Exeunt. I'm writing science-fiction at the moment, and having the Freespace soundtrack playing in the background is helping me to avoid writer's block.
One thing though, I seem to remember from my days messing around with FRED that the Freespace soundtracks have names. I don't know if you've compiled several pieces into one though.
-
He's compiled the various file names from FreeSpace 1 + Silent Threat as the sound files for those were grouped into missions. i.e. m1_aarv1, m7_bttl2 and m8_nrml3
-
Ah... okay. That's cool.
-
Any chance you can put all of them in a single zip file? thanks.
-
I could, yes...but you'll need to give me a few days to do it. Great changes are afoot in my lifestyle, so I don't have that much spare time in my hands as before. :sigh:
-
If you have the time, could you upload the FS2 soundtrack as well?

I could...if SkyDrive works. :nervous:

Is that some sort of joke?

I thought Darkside was actually pretty good

Uhh, no. I hear it, loud and clear, when I select the Silent Threat campaign under FSPort.

If you are still around, would you repost your upload?

Even better, here's the semi-official (compiled by the game's composer, but not published by Interplay) tracks: https://soundcloud.com/daniel-wentz
-
Just to clarify: these are by Dan Wentz, but they're remixes, not the originals. Some sound quite different from the ingame tracks.
I also have some FS1 tracks I put together a long time ago (I think... :nervous:), when I get back to my FS PC I can upload them if Androgeos doesn't upload his.

Fair enough. Personally, I think the remixes sound better (more polished) than the originals.
-
Many of them are simply and intentionally different from the originals. It's not just a matter of audio quality or polish. The remix of Cinema2 in particular is by design considerably more understated.
-
These (https://www.box.com/s/yv5m4htxfwdqr2nugd17) are the ones I have, all the ingame tracks from FS1 (ambient tracks followed by combat tracks, no "enemy arrival" transitions) and cinema and mainhall as well (identical to the ones from the vp files).
-
On many of them, Dan just wanted to have a different take on some of his old art. I do not think it is fit to consider some of them "remakes" as much as "variations".

You DO realise that this thread was created five years ago and a lot has changed since then, right? :wtf:
Here they are now. (https://skydrive.live.com/redir?resid=78EECE80A0658C61!835) I guess direct SkyDrive links didn't carry over after Microsoft's last major update to the system.
