Title: having problems with 'Derelict' with the Governor's shuttle;
Post by: Mitsialis on February 12, 2008, 11:25:54 pm
Guys:

I JUST reinstalled FSopen so I HAVE to have the latest version; I am playing the mission where I have to protect Capellan Governor M'Kembe's shuttle from Pirates; well Thanks to using LOTS of cheats I save the shuttle but once all the pirate ships are destroyed or driven off, the shuttle doesn't dock with Luxor station;

What to do?

This is a known problem.  It has to do with the Ganymede not being rotated correctly.  There was a fix posted somewhere, but I forget where.

Use a 3.6.9 or 3.6.10 build and the 3.6.8 zeta MediaVPs.  This will resolve the issue.

Uh...pardon me for being a bit of a 'thickie' but what are 3.6.8 Zeta Media VPs? AND How do I install them?

TIA

How did you actually install FSO? Turey's Installer is a fantastic option, if you are unsure of what to do.

Thanks;

I did use Turey's latest FSO install---I clicked on the linky & then 3.5 Gig comes pouring in! Took me ALL night; the ONLY thing that I didn't try was the VPs---I figured it looked good enough as it was....so RE: the 3.6.8 Zeta; is there a particular part that I need to download or just do it all? I don't want to create other problems....and I am NOT the most proficient computer guy around

I had this same problem with the campaign when I first played it, so I can help you out here.

You can download the mediavps from here: http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,39905.0.html (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,39905.0.html)

Now, I'll give you the help that ARSPR gave me:
Quote
And after that I'm sorry to say that nope, you are not using mediavps in a right way because mediavps "fix" the issue.

The problem is that retail & mediavps HTL faustus is not exactly the same. With retail Faustus, Docking ring is rotated and blocks the fighter bay of the Typhon. You can find full info about it in previous (old) posts in this thread. Or if you want you have full info and a fixed mission, (which rotates the Faustus instead the docking ring) in Mantis bug 1168 (http://scp.indiegames.us/mantis/view.php?id=1168).

But please check how you have installed mediavps and how Derelict points to them through MOD.INI cause as already said mediavps faustus "fixes" the problem. Follow Karajorma's FAQ (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/karajorma/FAQ/installing.html) and make sure you've got a "clean" FS2 installation:
  • Delete all freespace2/data/ contents but players folder (unless you want to lose all your existing pilots). Be careful because you can be deleting custom missions or badly installed mods (but installed nevertheless).
  • Check that in your freespace2/ dir you only have the vps listed in this Wiki page (http://www.hard-light.net/wiki/index.php/FS2_Data_Structure#Introduction)

And also try to fully understand how to properly install mods without having undesired cross effects (each one in a different folder, usage of launcher mod tab and mod.ini files, etc.)

And hopefully that should solve all your problems. I know it did for me.

so RE: the 3.6.8 Zeta; is there a particular part that I need to download or just do it all? I don't want to create other problems....
Everything, for maximum visual delight. But, if your computer is not top-of-the-line NASA supercomputer, don't download the adveffects.vp and the corresponding patch (mp-710_adveffects.vp). And, if you haven't already, do familiarize yourself with the following sources of information:

Getting started with FreeSpace 2 (http://www.hard-light.net/wiki/index.php/Getting_started_with_FreeSpace_2)

FreeSpace 2 manual (http://www.the-underdogs.info/games/f/freespace2/files/freespace2-m.zip)
