Title: Who is the legitimately oldest person on HLP?
Post by: Aardwolf on February 13, 2008, 08:40:15 pm
Excluding people who falsely input their ages when they created their accounts...

Does anybody know?

I would think that Grandad (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?action=profile;u=3072) is.

Dang. I am actually 700 trillion years older than the universe, but I put down in my profile that I was 15. So now I don't count.... :(

I'm sure he meant ~13.7 billion years, if that's what confused you.

Dang. I am actually 700 trillion years older than the universe, but I put down in my profile that I was 15. So now I don't count.... :(
That would have been funny if you'd put the true age of the universe.

Actually, no, there's absolutely no way that would have been funny or witty. Shame on you.

Oh noes! I shall now attempt to distract the reader from my post's un-funniness by creating another equally un-amusing post, exploiting my own lack of humor! And I will follow that with a short comment about the actual topic of the thread, only large enough to make this post not spam.

****

Curses! My vein attempt at mild humor has failed!

Anyway, @Aardwolf: Do you mean like actual active members? The extreme majority of the people here just pop in for like 3 posts to get their bugs fixed. IIRC there was one semi-active voice actor guy who was ~45. But if you just meant in total, I'd say Grandad, as Hades said. IIRC there was another guy in his 60s here, too.

Inquisitor is something like 38. He might chase you with his walking stick.

So have to be older than that.

I seem to recall putting down being born in 3040 in my original profile, but everything got messed up when we moved away from 3Dap.

Hades said 13 in his profile a while ago, but Titan's the youngest. Then I believe it's Hades, then haloboy, then me, then sizzler. (if you're talking about active members)

You know, just because somebody puts 65 in their profile doesn't mean that they're legitimately 65. Has anyone actually talked to him?

Know what? I've got no problem with "senior". If anyone wants to think of me as the "senior admiral", that's cool. It certainly beats "old fart admiral". :P

Excellent taste--that's quite the trophy.

Anyways I can gladly say I'm neither oldest nor youngest here. 17 years old, and going to college this year.

I'm going to enjoy the free electricity and internet, to start. I have a few systems begging for some power and the interwebs. Crunching for XtremeSystems's WCG team.

Here's hoping that you get Turey's 30 Mbits/sec. I envy him.

17-24 seems to be the median age.

17-24 is the median age for most of the internets.

(Is 19)

So when is someone going to calculate the mean/median/etc based on all user profiles on the site?  I'm too busy with work or I'd do it today.
Title: Re: Who is the legitimately oldest person on HLP?

Wouldn't that mean you'd have to take the ages of every single member down?
Title: Re: Who is the legitimately oldest person on HLP?
Post by: chief1983 on February 18, 2008, 08:17:55 pm
Well I would just write a script or something that ran through and grabbed it off of every profile page.

Well, there's a members list, with links to all the profiles on it.  I would write a script that went through every page in the members list, and visited every profile link and pulled the age out of it.  Not really all that difficult.

Or you could just have it go to http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?action=profile;u=#, where # is a number from 1 to 7594 (or more if more people join).
