Ok i was playing through raider wars with all the other playable ships and i noticed that the whitestars can't glide. i was just wondering why this is? i mean obviously it makes sense to make ships we haven't seen glide in the show not glide in the game, but i am pretty sure we have seen whitestars pull off manuvers in the show that can only be acomplished with glide.
-
probably for the same reason that cap ships don't seem to quite move their ass in game, something to do with game balance/physics.
For example, if you play Fortune Hunters 2260, there's a brief shot of a Shadow battlecrab chasing after a Whitestar. It's great and all, but they don't seem to be moving all that fast like in the show.
EDIT: My bad, I think it was more physics with starship maneuvering.
Bah, I'll just let one of the actual devs tell you, cause it's late and I'm going by memory from way back when.

Erm Excuse me put i remember the White Stars gliding inshow
-
That's why it seemed quite strange that it wasn't included. Seeing as from what i can gather 3.4b is going to be the last release.
-
In space all ships can glide, but only the Furies seem to make significant use of that fact in the show. In honour of that only the Furies can glide, and TBP 3.4b has been finalised now. So it will not change.
-
You could check out Asprin's "Minbari Project". A completely separate and stand alone game based on The Babylon Project which implements Newtonian physics for all ships.

well to be honest it really doesn't bother me that an other of the ships can't glide. It's just the whitestar. personally i think it's the only thing wrong with it. Otherwise it's perfectly made to be like the show. (well obviously it doesn't turn quite as quick as in the show but you gotta have some limits.)
-
Well I can't please everyone can I.
-
sorry mate. it isn't all that much of a big deal. it's an awesome game. i was just curious as to why it wasn't included. i would do it myself. you know just on mine but i don't have a clue how to do it. oh well. never mind.

IIRC, in TBP 3.4 the Whitestars can glide ( in the mission where you have to protect B5 against Drakh Raiders, some remake of the episode "A view from the Gallery" ).
In 3.4b none of the ships can glide, at least for me. Neither with the default missions, nor with self made missions. Maybe somethings wrong with my installation?
-
I had that problem too. Deinstalling everything and redownloading helped
-
You know if you REALLY want to enable proper gliding for ships, you COULD always adjust your tables, though that's really at your own risk.
-
since I fought for GILDE FOR ALL FURIES but not for GLIDE FOR EVERYBODY, I like the current TBP-core.
after all, the Whitestar is quite slow so adding Glide wouldn't change much. And it's so big you can forget about evading!

The Whitestar is slow? Isn't this ship running 125+? Would make her a bit faster then the Fury...
But it is ok the way it is, i guess we won't see a 12player MP dogfight with Whitestars vs Shadow Battlecrabs ( sadly no Playership by default) or Drakh Raiders...

I think all figthers should be able to glide......The Frazi shows it also in the show.
-
But Nial fighters don't glide. Watch the stuff with the Earth-Minbari war. Nials fly like they're atmosphere fighters.
-
all ships should be able to glide but that would also ruin balancing (Fury would be inferior to all other vessels then).
I demanded GLIDING FOR ALL FURIES some time ago. I think that's enough.
-
Watch the show. Nial fighters NEVER GLIDE.
-
And don't forget, the AI doesn't know how to glide anyway.
-
Although the AI is bloody good at shooting you when you try it. :)
-
not when using your lateral and vertical thrusters at the same time
-
Sneaky. :)

recommendation:
change the controls. I fly with NumPad and use WASD for strafing. And since Q is not used by TBP, I assigned it to SubsystemCycling. :)
