SPOILERS ON THE PORT BOW! LAST WARNING!
.
.
This is doing my head in :shaking:
For some reason the beam code has imploded in the Descent mission of Derelict. When the Auriga jumps in it targets most of its beams at the Cypher rather than the station, resulting in the Cypher dying (which, I have been informed, it should not) and the station surviving (also not good). :wtf:
This is quite a problem, as AFAIK the death of the station is one of the required terms for the RTB. The Auriga is only beamfree for the first salvo, so continuity errors aside the Event Horizon MUST die in that first salvo to avoid the mission getting stuck. Without that I get AWOL'd and can never progress to the next mission.
Does anyone have a clue how to fix this mess? And no, I'm not using an old/odd/ugly build, I have 3.69 and the (patched) 3.68 media VPs like most other people who have played the SCP version of the campaign. Help! :sigh:

1.
Hi, this is spoiler
2. Start the mission. Then, just jump out.
3. Repeat #2 4 times.
-
Yes, I know spoiler, but I thought two big warnings would get the message across better than boxes of black text given the specific nature of the topic.
And this is Derelict. No MASTER PHAIL in this campaign, even if you suck five-in-a-row you get bumped back to the current mission. No skipping! I tried that out of desperation already.
Problem is, the original campaign is so old no-one might know of a fix... :(
-
1) Extract the mission.
2) Open in FRED2.
3) Beam-protect the Cypher, either in the ship editor or by setting up an event for it.
4) Save.
5) Play as normal.
With the right tools available, there's always a fix.

I think I got lucky on this mission. I was just replaying Derelict, and I came to this mission... I was like "oh, crap this is the problem mission"... and the Auriga took a potshot at the Cypher (which jumped out after taking that damage), then jumped out... here's the lucky part though: the Auriga shot down the Event Horizon just as it jumped out... fulfilling all the requirements of me passing the mission!
-
I created a fix a while ago because I couldn't finish the mission.
Anyway its attached.
EDIT: And the station should self-destruct after the Transport has undocked, the Auriga arrives, and its hull is below 20%.

But spoiler tag says spoiler and people will see it and be like 'Ooh, a spoiler. I think I won't read it'. Also, this is Derelict. Roughly 99% of the people here have played it already.

Has anyone compiled a consolidated fix list of any and all bugs found in Derelict post the first re-release? Derelict is probably worth the effort to clean up once and for all.
-
I feel like either I got extremely lucky during my play-through of the re-release, or else at least some of these "bugs" that have been reported since then are player-induced, since I don't remember there being any show-stoppers at all. I have more than half a mind to play through the thing again on a recent build and see if I hit any of these same problems; maybe there was a code change somewhere along the way that's affecting it.

the Auriga took a potshot at the Cypher (which jumped out after taking that damage), then jumped out
Heh... that potshot killed "my" Cypher before it could even jump. And the Auriga just sat there, staring at the EH after it knocked it down to 38% hull...
I doubt the bugs are from code changes as plenty of others used the "intended" setup (3.6.9+3.6.8VPs) like me without issues. That said, I doubt its user-end either as I haven't messed with anything... Hope blowfish's patch works or its FRED time
I'm sooo good at finding unique bugs :D
EDIT: What do you actually DO with that .fs2 file blowfish?
-
Put it in /Derelict/data/missions. If that doesn't exist, create it.

1. ingame, type www.freespace2.com
2. target ship that's not supposed to die. Press ~+Shift+I
3. Target station that's supposed to die. Press ~+K
4. Proceed as normally.
