Title: Briefing Icons
Post by: Clawandfang on February 22, 2008, 11:09:50 am
Did any else feel sad to see the retro Freespace 1 briefing icons go out the window? I much prefered them to the new icons which Freespace 2 bears. I was also a little annoyed to find the FSport uses the updated icons as well.

Does anyone else feel that the older icons were more charming? Or..heh...is it just me...?

Many people like the old ones but personally I like the new ones.

Is there some way of modifying FSport to give people the option of the older icons?
Don't bother gettting techical with me mind, as I won't understand it; a simple yes, no or maybe'll suffice.

Yes.

are the old ones those ones from INFA that i can't get rid of? i hate them, they only give me half of the icons on the list, and now all the mods i have are screwed to use them.

And that is why we don't install mods in the main folder ladies and gentlemen.

Haven't you learned anything from that guy that gives those sermons in church?! Captain What's-his-name?! Among other things, you don't place Homesick.vp in your mediavps folder. I can't even imagine what you've been stuffing into the actual \freespace\ folder...

just mods and the exes. i keep all the other crap in a subfolder.

Like I said. You're doing it wrong.

The main freespace folder contains: the retail files, the FSO executables, the Launcher, launcher6.ini, errorlog.txt and maybe a vp containing the FS2 cutscenes.

Everything else is divided into subfolders. Preferrably one subfolder/mod.

Ya, i have the mod folder, and in there is it's vps and the data folder for it.

:sigh: But you should have many subfolders. Like, one for Inferno, one for  Blue Planet, one fore Derelict and so on. Not one folder containing Inferno, Blue Planet and Derelict.

:wtf: i don't do that. i have a folder for every mod. one for blue planet, one for infa, one for derelict.... (long list)

launcher6.ini..... i don't have that..... i have everything else.

Good. That's what I was getting at. But why the hell did you have Homesick in your mediavps folder? Don't try to deny it. I saw that thread about your mv 3.6.10 issues.

Ah... what I intended to be a bit of nostalgia has turned into turned into somewhere people can have a go at Titan. OT?

Nah, it's not off-topic. It's just another day at HLP. Numerous threads have been converted into places where Titan's dad is critisized for his lack of trust for open source, or places where Titan's inability to listen to reason is brought up.

Oh, and you misspelled 'resident' in your personal text.

I find it easier to create FS2 icons than FS1 ones. I'm surprised people find it easier the other way... I mean it's prntscreen, gray scale, paste to correct palette, profit...

Grabbing a few icons is hardly 'filling your laptop with loads of stuff'. Or IDK. Maybe they're, like, really superturbomegahighres icons.

No, I meant that I'm not going to bother installing FS Retail when I've already got FSPort. And are we talking about the smae "icons" here? I'm talking about the ones in the briefings...

Yup. We're on the same topic here. But, consider this: Install, grab briefing icons, uninstall. End of story. And we'll all live happily everafter.
