...all of the Freespace interface graphics look pixelated and weird. Also there is a noticeable drop in framerate sometimes. I guess I should have expected both, still, I think the game's interface graphics are due for an upgrade.
I went from my MacBook Pro's built in 15.4 inch 1440x900 display to an external 24 inch 1920x1200 one. Other stuff looks really cool on this monitor.

All the interface art is in 1024x768, and higher res = more pixels rendered = lower framerate.

I know.

I have the same display, sept it's 26 inch and at 1920X1080. I don't have this problem, though, just the widescreen misalignment bug.

Look around for one of the builds that fixes that bug.

Won't it be included in the next SCP release?

Yes but you can get the fix before then.
-
I don't know how to put it in, but i don't really care. the Misalignment doesn't really do much.

You don't have to put it in. There are already builds floating around with the fix. AFAIK no bugs have been found with the fix. You don't get normal maps though.
Windows Build (http://fs2source.warpcore.org/exes/latest/C02182008.zip) or Mac Build (http://freespace.flatdisc.net/FS2_Open%203.6.9p1.zip)

Dude, you bought a Mac, what do you expect? Seriously, if you want to run games, you buy a REAL laptop, such as an HP, Toshiba, or, if you have a lot of money to burn, Alienware (but stay away from Vista). The only reason things look cool on your monitor is because its an Apple running Mac OS. Macintosh's slogan is pretty much: "If it isn't pretty, hide it!" ...
-
I didn't buy a mac because I wanted to play games, I bought a mac because I hate Windows. I can still run MediaVPs + AdvEffects at a playable framerate (except sometimes in asteroid fields), so I'm OK.
-
I love Macs, but I hate it when people complain when games don't work well on them. If you're a gamer, don't get a Mac unless you are really rich and can afford a Mac Pro.

Mac is a waste of Unix, GO LINUX! Seriously, though, why do you hate Windows? Too complex for you?

No, if you're rich you buy Alienware and run Linux and Wine. You NEVER buy a Mac if you're intending on playing games.

Its complexity compared to functionality is too high to get anything done efficiently.

For simpletons, maybe. For programmers, decidedly not (Linux excepted). Seriously, why does EVERYONE use the Office Suite and why is Outlook even more popular? Do you know what word processor I used at school on our Macs there? Word. Know what else? It sucked on the Mac compared to my PC at home. And if you want to game, which these Bulletin Boards were founded for, you use a PC.

Its not that I can't figure out windows, its just not worth the effort for my purposes. Mac OS X is just so much easier to use (and it looks better). I use word when I have to though it does run rather slow on a mac. As I said before, I didn't buy a mac because i wanted to game on it. Anyway, PCs are prone to crashes, bugs, viruses, and being thrown out the window. I would only ever have a windows machine as a secondary computer.

One, I hate the cliche argument against PC, "It is prone to crashes, bugs, viruses...etc." Seriously, get your own material. Viruses are written for PCs because they are the mainstream computer. Last time I checked, 95% of computers sold were PCs. Granted, it is a little harder to write a virus for a Mac, but if Macs were mainstream viruses would be written for them, with a few for PC. Despite popular dissent, Windows is a fairly stable operating system (ME excluded, everyone agrees that was a colossal flop) its merely that it offers itself the capability to modify the OS, change settings, etc. so much that people screw up the Operating System themselves. There's a saying in IT, if you don't know what a feature does, don't mess with it. Macintosh is the direct opposite. Sure, it's shiny out of the box, but you can't modify it. We have a Mac at school running on an Intel chip (not Windows affiliated, that's IBM) and the update for it STILL hasn't come out for the program we record the monthly radio show on. We had to re-record ten minutes of the show due to the program randomly dropping off audio. WTF? Still sure that Mac is more stable than PC? On a final note, Windows Vista looks AMAZINGLY shiny using Aero. IMHO, it looks far better than any of the Mac OS X offshoots.

This is getting off topic. The fact that he's on a Mac has nothing to do with his problem.
The issue is that 1024x768 is not an exact multiple of (or even the same aspect ratio as) 1920x1200, so it's upscaling and losing detail as a result. That will happen with almost any resolution except for 2048x1536.
Recreating the interface graphics would be basically impossible unless we had Volition's original models for the mainhall scenes, and even though it would probably take a fair bit of work.

Would it not be possible to just crop it?

Stuff like tech room, pilot selection screen, and hud could be done more easily.
