Split screen set one to UV face select mode and the other to UV/IMAGE EDITOR, press A to select all, press U to open up UV unwrap options, choose whichever one you need, export the plan, make a texture and NEW-IMAGE. If you eant to make small adjustments to the tecture file and see them on the model, simply edit the picture, save and go the the UV/Image window and press ctr-R or select refresh and the model will update.

Oh and remember to set the view from "solid" to "textured".

Agh, read the title wrong, thought it said "make" not bake.

CTRL+ALT+B (texture only)
Full render is if you want lights to affect the texture.
