Title: German version announced
Post by: Tolwyn on February 29, 2008, 03:36:36 am
For this week's update, we want to let you know that we are currently working on producing a German version of Wing Commander Saga. We know many of our fans are in Germany or speak German as their first language, so with the help of Mind Crusher Studios (http://www.mindcrushers.de/), we will have a fully German version, as well. We will give you more details as this release draws nearer.

Don't worry, the German side of things has not displaced the English side of things. :)

Indeed the german part is kinda done external so it dosn't slow down the development of the rest.
I allready heard some examples of the german voiceovers and I liked it. If the rest is in the same quality all people with a german preferance can be happy about it.

It is a fairly simple matter of replacing text strings and file names. The recording and post processing are done by the Mind Crusher Studios.

Are you actually altering the mission files or using tstrings.tbl?

since we'll use different filenames, yes, we will alter mission files directly. I see no reason to use strings.tbl for this. This does not apply for the multiplayer missions though as well as table files.

The main reason for using strings.tbl and tstrings.tbl is that you can update the mission SEXPs in one place and both languages get updated. Otherwise it's twice as much work cause you have to remember to keep both missions in sync.

That said it's up to you to figure out which way works best for you.
