I'm not to fimilar with programming and I actually just started playing FS2 with these new awesome graphics. I'm not sure if it's my computer but these are the ONLY 3 ships (Medusa, Satis, and Orion ships) that have missing textures. Actually they have a white zebra lines going across. I downloaded the 3.6.9 Zeta version and then place them in my mediavps folder replacing the old ones. I still saw the white lines on these ships. Then I downloaded the 3.6.10 beta and put them in my mediavps folder and I still see them. Maybe it's not finished, maybe I goofed up a file (which I doubt because all I did was replace the old models with the new ones) or their was an old file that I haven't found and downloaded before 3.6.9 Zeta. Here, I posted some pics to show you guys.

Again, I'm still new to this and I'm still trying to absorb the vast information in these websites.

Did you use turey's installer?
And what are your system specs?
-
Yea I have it. I mean I was just playing Battlestar Galactica and The Babylon Project with no problems. What I'm guessing is that their is a missing file somewhere for these 3 ships that I need to get. I first got the 3.6.9 Zeta and placed it in my mediavps folder and then got the 3.6.10 Beta asssuming that file it would fix the problem, which it didn't. So far, all the other ships look great. It's not a big problem seeing these ships but then again I havne't played all the missions yet and I want to know if their was a way to fix it. Besides the textures on these 3 ships, the game runs smoothly on the highest settings with all the mediavps files in. It's not a big problem, just wondering if I did anything wrong on my end.

I'm going to assume that you have an NVIDIA card, 8600 or above, and relatively current drivers (within last 2-3 releases). If I'm wrong then you can probably just stop reading now ...
I have read something regarding this same issue, and it appears to be a driver bug. But, it is actually triggered by content. Apparently there is some issue that causes DXT compressed textures (DXT5 specifically, I think) created with particular software to display like this. I've heard that re-saving the affected textures using another app will fix it, but I have not verified this myself.
I know that's a pretty strange bug, but if there is any truth to it, then it might be worth a look. If you can't re-compress the textures yourself then perhaps someone else will post new ones for you to try out.

I have Dual Nvidia Geforce 7950 GT cards but I guess I will check for something about my drivers. Maybe it's my video cards, I don't know, but I agree that it's kinda of strange. It's also kind of strange that it ONLY happens with these three ships (well I haven't seen the enemy ships because I haven't gotten far in the campaign). Thanks for the input.
-
I don't think FSO supports dual cards, does it?
-
well I haven't seen the enemy ships because I haven't gotten far in the campaign
It might be a spoiler for you, but you can press F3 on the flight deck to get into "ships lab", where you can see all the ships.

It shouldn't need to (the driver should take care of this).
Just to add, I also get zebra lines with my 7950 (on linux), but only with some of the recent driver releases, if playing with 3.6.8Z VPs.
-
Thanks for the extra input. I guess it has to do something with the Nvidia Drivers. I guess their is no way to fix it until Nvidia gets new drivers I'm assuming or maybe a way the programmers can make it work for Nvidia 7 series video cards? Any of you guys who have White Zebra Lines reading this thread please post in this and tell us what video cards you are using... By the way, I found a fourth ship that has the White Zebra Lines, Shiva Ravana
(http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b330/imyourpapie/screen0051.gif)

Aww. :D The Ravana looks actually kinda cute like that. But it's "Shivan", to be precise. Which in turn raises another question. Have you played FS1? Ever? If not, and if you downloaded everything with Turey's Installer, play FSPort first. Since it's the FS1 campaign with the FSO engine and the graphical improvements. Just for the sake of storyline.
But let's hope you'll get this thing working first. I'll try to scour the forums when I have the time. There have been other threads like this (try "black and white ships" as a search term) here and I have a slight feeling that someone fixed it at least for himself with some driver fiddling.
-
I played Freespace 1 and 2 but a long time ago. I just reinstalled Freespace 2 because I heard of the Battlestar Galactica mod, which I love!!! Also, I been playing the The Babylon Project mod, which is pretty good. Anyways, I think I have to update the Fsport before I start playing because some of the mods in Turey's installer seem out of date. Unless the Freespace 1 and 2 share the same Media VP files?
Yea, I been trying to search threads with these black and white strips (white zebra strips) but was unsuccessful. I used the search terms white, strips, black and white strips, missing textures, etc. I might have to get some old drivers or try downloading beta drivers. I know for Call of Duty 4 I had missing textures on some soldiers and downloading beta drivers for my Nvidia Cards fixed it. I will play around and see what happens.
-
I used the search terms white, strips, black and white strips, missing textures, etc.
Good, except that it's "stripe". And I actually think that the Installer should get the newest files on every aspect. Or at least as new as they are in the servers. Except for the mediavps. It'll only download 3.6.8 Zeta, since the 3.6.10's are still at a beta stage.
While I'm at it, I found a thread about this issue (black and white ships) and I guess one way is to use Direct3D instead of OpenGL. But I don't know... Direct3D is more of a burden, even if it solves this issue. do try that driver fiddling first. Hope that it helps.
-
I also get those lines on the some of the ships(but not all) if I use any build other 1028xt. This is on a 7900gt with latest(?) drivers .
-
Well, it's always worth a try. imyourpapie, try this (http://fs2source.warpcore.org/exes/latest/taylor/20071028-win32.rar). Extract to your \freespace\ folder and tell the Launcher to use fs2_open_3_6_10-20071028T.exe.

HAHA, my brother passed by and told me to learn how to spell but I still couldn't find any threads on that issue.
Yea, I don't when to play on Direct3d because I heard it's buggy.

I only got it for those 4 ships that I posted above and this is a 7950 GT with the latest drivers.

THIS WORKED!!! Thanks again guys and Lobo for helping me out. The White Strips are gone. I don't know how that fixed it but it did. I guess I will play Freespace 1 before I played Freespace 2. I beat both of these games on the retail version but I will try again with these new graphics. Thanks again.
IF anybody has white zebra stripes on ships try the link that Lobo gave me. CLICK THIS! (http://fs2source.warpcore.org/exes/latest/taylor/20071028-win32.rar)

We need a big FAQ of all these bugs and fixes. I don't think kara's FAQ has been updated in a long time.
-
Just wondering, the 3.6.10 is a beta version right?
-
yeah, the VPs. Look pretty awesome as they are now, though. Unless your using the widescreen fix build. Then some textures get f***ed.
And by the way:
:welcomeblue:
enjoy your stay :D
-
Yup. The 3.6.10 Mediavps are still beta. Though the 3.6.10 build isn't exactly official yet, either. But, it has worked so far. And good to hear that it helped you as well.

Interesting... Where did you get that bloom effect from?
-
I think it's from the fact that the whole model is white.
-
HAHA I was messing around with Nero Photosnap Image Viewer and I added the glow effect.
-
Freespace now with accidental bloom lighting!
-
I get this problem on a recent build(03/16/08) of fso on Linux. Those win32 builds are useless to me.
-
Which build is that? If it's something from the CVS it's not gonna work, try this instead:
