Title: question aboutt FS2open requirements
Post by: Ryan on March 01, 2008, 02:12:34 am
Hello! me again. I just got acess to a new computer with far more video memory then before. Already, 3 or 4 games i was never able to run now do very well. I have always wanted to run FSopen, to expierence the graphics and the new campaigns. Can you please tell me if this is enough?

1,6GHZ

448MB of ram(I'm scared it needs 512)

167MB video memory WITH T&L!

I should note Im on windows vista.

Can you please tell me if i can run it? I would love to play that!

We wouldn't know if it'll run it. Download 'n try. If it works, it works. If not.... then probably not. Those memory readings are a bit exotic. Then again I'm used to seeing mostly 2n values.

But try it. See if it works. Just leave adveffects out.

448mb on vista ouch thats gonna suck (you should really try to upgrade to 2gb)
167mb video ram - that sounds like turbo-cache rather than standard shared memory

edit: strange number do you mean 167mb free ? im guessing its integrated intel

try it without mv_adveffects.vp it should be ok

Well, i actually got it working! It stutters alot and takes awhile to load, but I'm LOVING the new graphics! THank you!

...So where do i find these mods to run the campaigns that come with FSopen?

Hades Combine (http://hades-combine.com) is an excellent place to start looking, as it hosts a very large number of mods. The Missions and Campaigns forum is where releases are usually announced, so recent and/or popular campaigns can be found there (they usually have the word RELEASE in the topic title).

I second the advice of upgrading the RAM. The difference will amaze you. Things always look better when there are no stutters.

This game is more than capable of putting a good system through it's paces, at the same time you can get it to "run" on some pretty old systems.
