Something came to me last night whilst I was watching Deep Impact about the layout of the Orion.
If like many, (I did until last night), we presume the image of the Bastion's main hall to be the fighter bay entry bay, there is one problem with this. Every now and again, a wing of Hercules fly by. If we presume the void at the background to be the entrance point, then these Hercs would be on a collision course for the Bastion itself!
This ties in with my original theory, that the image is actually a storage area for loading and repairing fighters before they make their way into the launching area.

Yeah, that would be reasonable. What we see might be a "window" and not the runway.
-
We have been discussing that here (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,52074.0.html). The conclusion was that it's probably a multi-functional screen.

It's the hangar, just take a look at the starfield. The hercs are gonna avoid the hull out of view. :s

What about an inconsistency? I guess :v: wanted something SW like with that main hall, something's in contrast with the design of the Orion.
-
Or maybe it's at the bottom of the Orion fighterbay ? Lift the fighters/bombers up to the launch bay on the upper part and launch them.
OR it could be the very front of the Orion. Who knows how much can they be abusing the vast size of an Orion ?

The window could be somewhere here:

On a service deck, facing to the starboard side of the ship.
-
how could you just be hanging out there... if it was the entrance, then the whole bay would be subject to the vacuum of space.
-
It doesn't happen in sci-fi, especially in Star Wars.

That is what I thought last night.
