I've gotta say i bought the Ministry's annual 08 and mash up mix 08 and it's brought some classics back to the fore for me. So it gives me great pleasure to get the ball rolling with my first fave tune of this year-
Flat beat - Ice ice baby mix :)
-
The jet-engine-like sound of my computer fans. :nervous:
-
a mix of dragonforce, turisas, and galactica soundtrack that i play in the background as i blastinate everyone into oblivion in UT3
-
Poets of the Fall - Overboard
-
Symphony X - The Odyssey
-
That's a good one.
Me> heaven-loneliness, annual 08.

How do people tend to find new music to listen to? I listen to the radio allot when I'm driving somewhere but I almost never catch the song name or artist name so I never find out what I was just listening to and what I like so I never buy anything. I don't want to spark a debate about music downloads...more curious in the methods that people use to find out what they like.
-
Like yourself i just listen to the radio. When i'm out i'm one of those annoying twats who ends up pally with the DJ and helping choose music. It all stems from just picking a favourite scene, if i stray from it i'm lost.

I use the internet and look for bands of the same genre as what I currently listen to. I hate the radio and hardly ever listen to it.

Flogging Molly's new album can be streamed on MySpace.
http://www.myspace.com/floggingmolly
I think I've listened to No more Paddy's Lament about 60 times over the past two days. It's raw, unadulterated awesome.
-
Flogging Molly has a new album?
*runs downtown to buy*
Right now:
Click Click Boom - Saliva
Remarkably good for studying.
-
Comes out tomorrow, but all the songs are up on MySpace
-
disiplin-feed the ****er to the dogs
-
Giovanni Gabrieli-- Suscipe, clementissime Deus à 12
-
Bohemian Rhapsody

Altern8or - Club DJ mix. Then paint it black i think

Memorise key words from lyrics and then search online.
Other than that just... listenning and seeing if we like is another way.

How do people tend to find new music to listen to? I listen to the radio a lot when I'm driving somewhere but I almost never catch the song name or artist name so I never find out what I was just listening to and what I like so I never buy anything. I don't want to spark a debate about music downloads...more curious in the methods that people use to find out what they like.
For me it's usually a case of hand-me-down (i.e. someone already has the song, I listen to it and I find it 'worthy' enough to add to my playlists), or sometimes when I see a film advert/show/whatsoever and I find the song nice, then I go searching the discs at home, at the stores, online for more info on the song, etc.
Though for the latter, on several occasions I don't actually get the song I want until, say, a year or two later, long after I've forgotten about it... I simply remember it because I run across some new media that plays the song and shows the title/artist...
I don't listen to the radio here, the songs they play are more catered to the masses (i.e. the usual rock and pop). Considering my lifestyle you could say I rarely listen to a new track; it may be new to me, but it could be a few years old in release date terms already unless it's a certain game soundtrack.
And Ghostavo's way works too, if not all the time.
$0.02 :)

The radio station that I usually listen to has a website that says what songs they have played, so that helps me a lot. As for what I am listening to right now: Rush - The Fountain of Lamneth.
-
Dream Theater - In the Presence of Enemies
-
this (http://www.pcmb.net/MU/PCMB-07-2MB.mp3) - me
Does it intentionally sound like a chase sequence from a Pixar movie? Because that's what I was imagining while the music was playing. In any case, good job - I liked it.
-
John Denver - Thank God I'm a Country Boy
-
Agnus Dei (the one that is heard in the start of the first mission of HomeWorld)
The Light Befor We Land - the delgados

Queens of the Stone Age - Misfit Love (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sYw0KhwXdAY)
Personally, I like this latest incarnation of QOTSA's touring lineup. Mikey Shoes is one freaky bass player and Dean-O has been able to add new elements to certain songs. And some of the new tunes sound pretty good live.

This one is quite different form Kivenkantaja, doesn't sound as jolly :)
But anyone with the slightest interest in epic/folk metal can hardly go wrong by getting it.

Fear Factory - Zero Signal (http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x1o5k7_amv-naruto-fear-factory-zero-signal_creation)

Vaguely hilarous to me I happen to be listening to something with the same title...
Yoko Kanno - Zero Signal (Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex - Solid State Society OST)
...oops changed.
GitS SAC OST 1 - Run Rabbit Junk
Y'know, the first-season's ass-kicking time music. They brought it back for Solid State Society too, briefly, before it got replaced with Ilaria Graziano's Replica.

Korn might be nice if they had a singer who didn't whine and if they turned down the ****ing distortion
-
korn would never be nice regaurdless of the amount of distortion they used. also there are alot of good bands that use distortion the likest of which god (that would be me) has never seen.
anyway im hooked on venom's cast in stone album. i think it came out 10 years ago but its some serious good ****. its one of those albums where every ****ing song kicks ass. wish i could say the same for the rest of their stuff.
-
Dream Theater - Take the Time
Korn might be nice if they had a singer who didn't whine and if they turned down the ****ing distortion
And if they learned how to play a decent riff or a solo, stopped tuning their guitars so far down, stopped with the angry wigger rapping...

Children of Boredom - get an electric guitar, slam it up and scream relly loudly - sorry of this seems rough, but my experience of their final countdown re-do was not a good one...
-
Turkish Songs of the Damned - The Pogues.
Why? Why didn't someone tell me about these guys?! Dear God, what I've been missing for the past few decades...

Yup, I'm with you. You could review most of their records by saying "The first song was like ROAR!!!, the second song was like AEEEYAAGH!, the third song was like GRR! and the rest was pretty much the same". The drum work might be nice, as well as certain solos, but that's about it. I get murderous thoughts if I listen to more than one Bodom song in a row.

"Yeah, the beginning of that bloody Phantom song is from Echoes. *DAAAA-da-da-da-da-da* [sic]. I couldn't believe it when I heard it. It's the same time signature - it's 12/8 - and it's the same structure and it's the same notes and it's the same everything. Bastard. It probably is actionable. It really is! But I think that life's too long to bother with suing Andrew ****ing Lloyd Webber."

Mostly a large smattering of the usual electronic and industrial...
Found a little gem called Nerve Filter recently and I've also been getting into more textural stuff like Motor.
Oh.. and Hi everyone :D
-
I've been listening to Two-Mix recently, a Japanese group that did the theme songs to one of my favorite animé: Gundam Wing.
Course, the lyrics are all in Japanese (with a few English phrases thrown in), so I don't have a clue what they're saying... but I actually prefer it that way.
I did look up the translated lyrics once, but they must have been uninteresting because I don't remember them. :p

Funnily enough, much the same story here, except I do remember the lyrics to the one I looked up. It was Rhythm Emotion, and I've never been able to listen to the damn thing since because they're so incredibly mindless and disgusting I can't stand to. It makes Britney Spears music look like a masterpiece.
Oh well. At least I found my full-intro versions of Truth and Break again.

Rhythm Emotion was one of my least favorite songs.
Truth from Detective Conan ? You want the full version ?

I have the full version, but I haven't seen it outside my own computer, or rather my own CD collection (it only made it onto this computer today and didn't get to the previous one at all) in a very very long time. Likewise Break.
There are a few others, like Burning and the variations on Last Impression that are also very hard to find but which I still have.

I've concluded most of the Area 88 music is actually too fast-paced for FS combat. :P
-
Lamented Souls - The Essence of Wounds (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=saEZybdZ5qg)
this song is beautiful.
-
White Land - Naoto Ishida, Yumiko Kametani - F-Zero
This is quite a relaxing song. It just makes me feel like kicking back and forgetting everything. :wtf:
-
Adult - Hand to phone.
Very funky :)

I'm not listening to anything at the moment, unless if you count "blowing up Lokis on FS2 while hearing Leviticus in the background".

Abingdon Boys School - Innocent Sorrow
-
Abingdon Boys School (or T.M. Revolution?) - White Breath (http://video.aol.com/video-detail/abingdon-boys-school-white-breath/184202785)
More like T.M. Revolution.
I've reached the same conclusion. At first I thought it actually was abs, since their touring drummer and touring bassist were present as well. But the absence of Toshiyuki Kishi would suggest that it is actually T.M. Revolution performing, with back-up from most of the members of abs. Though this version has a different sound to it, compared to the T.M. Revolution original.

-
Via Dolorosa - Abingdon Boys School
Draggy openings tend to turn me off.
-
Let's Go Away - Takenobu Mitsuyoshi - Daytona USA
I note that I like soundtracks a lot. My iTunes library comprises mostly of music under the "Game" and "Soundtrack" genres. ;7
-
Used to be like that. Then I dl'd Abingdon Boy's School debut album of the same name. Now looking for more of their albums, which is quite difficult to find in SG.
-
I've been listening to game music and soundtracks since Primary 6 and I'm still not tired of them. In fact, after I got Descent 3: Mercenary, I found my favourite piece of music. Even though I've got lots of newer, and probably better-sounding music, I still maintain the following as my favourite piece of music among all:
Thirteen O - AutoPilot - Descent 3: Mercenary (http://www.dfiles.de/download/d3/misc/music/ml3full.zip)
-

I so have to get that Japan Tour 2008 DVD.
Now looking for more of their albums, which is quite difficult to find in SG.
Good luck with that. They've released one album so far. Find the singles. There are some phunky b-sides on those.

The 2ND Reality (Blue Planet Mix) - Skaven - FreeSpace 2: Blue Planet
This version, along with the original, fall under the "Demo" genre of music, if I'm not wrong.
-
Don't know about Demoscene as an actual genre of music, but a lot of the demo soundtracks of the 90's did have their own particular sound, yes.
Skaven - Razorback
-
Oh yeah, they sure did. I keep a collection of music from Skaven, Purple Motion, WAVE, and a few other artists on my MacBook. I listen to those from time to time.

:nervous: Most certainly not. I did a thorough search on the board to see if I had listened to it before.
Probably. I think he likes Dir en Grey.

Badger song underground hardhouse remix......................
It's not my badger remix is it? The crappy cheesy trance-rave one?
Cos I heard a cool hard house one last year with a kicking beat and bass that was a lot better than mine. I think it was DJ K-Complex. I was sad when I couldn't find it again :(
EDIT: the second song in this mix (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ep0q75CfIIs)?

Dogs of War - Main Title - Christopher Lennertz - Medal of Honor: European Assault
That's quite a misleading game title, since I read that the game setting's in Africa.

Try using XMPlay to play the song I'm listening to now. Search for jt_pools on the Mod Archive and set the Visualisation in XMPlay to MOD Pattern display.
Alternatively, click here (http://modarchive.org/index.php?request=view_by_moduleid&query=46502#membercomments) if you're too lazy to do a search. :)

Yes, but most people, at first glance, would think that it's an assault on Europe.

Not simultaneously, I hope! ;)
Deadline (http://modarchive.org/index.php?request=view_by_moduleid&query=46482) - Jeroen Tel (WAVE)
What I love about tracker modules is that they sound very authentic, even though they really are just rows and rows of cues for different sounds to play. winLAME (http://winlame.sourceforge.net) is a very useful tool to convert them into MP3s.

I know the name, and I'll pass on the glorified elevator music, thanks. :P (Though quite seriously that's often what I think of his work.)
Prefer more...evocative, I suppose.

Currently listening to one of the music track that's probably gonna be used in my mod :p

Aozora no Namida - Hitomi Takahashi

Yet another fine piece of tracker music from Peter Hajba, the guy who made the Bejeweled 2 soundtrack (I have that too, as well as the game). :D

Papercut by Linkin Park
For some reason I always see/think of a realistic battle in FS whenever I listen to 'Papercut' or 'What I've Done'.
-
D'espairsRay - Garnet (http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x3bp1o_despairsray-garnet-liquidize)
For some reason, I find that numerous D'espairsRay tracks would work with FreeSpace, one way or another. Without the vocals, of course.

GTD Morgain theme ( Twilight Main ) now.
Why isn't Twilight's new music mentioned in the wiki? Under new music in mods.
-
Papercut by Linkin Park
For some reason I always see/think of a realistic battle in FS whenever I listen to 'Papercut' or 'What I've Done'.
What I've Done is incidentally something that served as inspiration for a particular sequence in something I wrote...though it's on a much more personal-combat level.
As for what I'm listening to now, Goldeneye 64 - Surface 1. (This game always makes me wonder where modern FPS went so damned wrong...)
-
Darkside Ambient ( M10_Nrml1 )
Probably the best FreeSpace music track !

I quite like the Egyptiany one from FS1

Fixed. If it's an extended intro version of FS2_Batt_A01.wav, it's called Ancients. Otherwise, it's called Genesis. In addition, I think any piece of canon FreeSpace music is done by Dan Wentz.
-
Hide and Seek - Joshua Redman
-
Darkside Ambient ( M10_Nrml1 )
Probably the best FreeSpace music track !
There are loads of good ambient tracks in FS1.

Got a song from The World Ends with You (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i0569Wt-cZ0) stuck in my head (it sounds better in-game). Weird soundtrack for a game, as it's made entirely of pop music. I'm not usually one who goes for that kind of stuff, but it actually works here.
Anyone with a DS owes it to themselves to play this game, incidentally. It is definitely the best the handheld has to offer at this point, and one of the best games I've ever played.
Also features a twisted math genius who is quickly becoming a walking meme-factory with his quotes ("You're so zetta slow!").
