EDIT: You know what? I'm really hoping that the LHC will turn up something that will allow us to develop some kind of FTL + grav tech and something more advanced than old fashioned rocketry that would finally let me get off this rock before the **** really starts hitting the fan. :p

Grain and wheat be going up. It's a basic law of economics, increase demand or reduce supply, and you'll get sky high prices.

And it is so nice that EU has made the local farmers' lives so simple and easy that they aren't leaving their jobs in masses.
I see this as a possibility of getting some sense on this food production stuff, but given the circumstances I expect the opposite.

Be sure that you rotate the crops when you grow them.

Speaking of expiring food. Some of it's still good a couple of days after the expiration. Try taking a look through the store garbage bin sometime, you might be surprised what you can get out of there.

If there were less people in those areas, you might actually see some vegie gardens in their backyards, not another family's tent or whatever they live in.
All dominant species seem to get wiped out by something...
