Title: Sol: A History
Post by: rbxplayer on March 28, 2008, 04:35:15 pm
I am willing to try voice acting on Sol A History

1. Please tell me how to install since it uses Inferno... no idea what to do
2. I am a newbie. Will try to do something but I need someone to review the content and make suggestions.

Thanks

Having the campaign's not necessary, we can send you the scripts. :)

I guess you're using FS Open...look for ShadowGorrath's patch. Inferno R1 main release+SCP patch can be found on the Inferno site. :)

Downloading it from Freespacemods. What a great website :)

Just having the scripts does not give you the feel of the overall contest from which they are taken; especially for ingame speech.

I will try it out. Will send you a couple of samples to give your feedback. I still have a lot to learn. :)

The point here is that so far you're the only one willing to voice act Sol: A History as everyone thinks the campaign's too long.

Check the FSCRP subforum out and see if there's a campaign in need of voice acting. Contact Tinman.

...or the alternate voice acting for Derelict...

40 missions... Let's see...

Rough counting:
GTA and then EA Command,
GTD Terra,
Many cruisers,
Many different wingmen,
Enemy bases,
GTD/EAD Tereus,
EAD Lindos,
EACv Darkness,
Installations,
IPC Styx,
Neptunian-Uranian strike fleet ( total 5 cruisers, but only 1 talks ),
the people that brief the player,
etc.

IF you're serious count me in (pending acceptance)...

[edit] Dammit just realized while I was getting my samples link that this thread was NOT a offical SOL request, but was made by someone outside the project.

Regardless, if you are looking here are my samples for consideration...  :D

I was previously used in Derelict and TBP:RW

Voice acting S:AH is an ambitious thing...we first need to get a reasonable number of actors.

Is the Voice Acting Alliance willing to help?

Post by: Ashrak on May 27, 2008, 02:37:00 pm
theres some people signed up to the voice actor thread, so can someone get to scripting on the first part of SAH so we can get a solid number of roles needed, and start casting? :)
Title: Re: Sol: A History
Post by: ShadowGorrath on May 27, 2008, 02:42:20 pm
Ask Mobius.

But why do I have the feeling that I'll do it when I see no progress ?...

Post by: rbxplayer on May 27, 2008, 04:37:50 pm
I suggest either you or Mobius post a link to download the scripts as a start. Voice actors pick their favourite characters and start working on some samples.

There are a lot of characters needed. Having the script available will make it more easy to lure more voice actors to join.

Then it will be a matter of choosing the best for a particular role.

Step1: Please post the scripts.

I can use Goober's Voice Acting Manager to create the scripts in no time and UL them to FileFront(FSCRP special account). That'd be pretty pointless if we don't coordinate our job and choose the roles. Who's acting who?
Title: Re: Sol: A History
Post by: ShadowGorrath on May 28, 2008, 12:16:37 pm
That's why people need the scripts to know what roles are there that need to be voice acted.

Playing the campaign should have a better effect, IMO. They also need to know the tone, the gravitas and whatsoever.

Anyways, voice acting will delay the release of the upgraded S:AH campaign by several months, at best. What should we do, wait for voice acting or add the voice pack later?
Title: Re: Sol: A History
Post by: ShadowGorrath on May 28, 2008, 04:09:03 pm
The voice acted SAH would be aprox. 450mb ( with my graphics upgrade that is ;) ). So my advice is to have it seperate. Unless you don't mind waiting like for ST:R, for example ?
Title: Re: Sol: A History
Post by: Mobius on May 28, 2008, 04:16:49 pm
Separate. What a nice word. :nervous:

So - do you people want the scripts? Oh, ShadowGorrath, would you like to work for the FSCRP? You have experience with upgrades... :)

Post by: ShadowGorrath on May 28, 2008, 04:24:27 pm
Nah, don't think so. I'm still pretty much a newbie to modding. :p

Btw, there'll be a need of 3 Commands. If not 4.
Title: Re: Sol: A History
Post by: rbxplayer on May 28, 2008, 04:52:45 pm
My suggestions:

1. Work on the voice acting and the upgraded S:AH should be separate as ShadowGorrath previously posted.

2. Mobius or ShadowGorrath post the script

3. Voice actors have to play the full campaign to get the overall feel as Mobius suggested. In the meantime, they will be also acting as testers and post bugs

4. As you might have noticed there are only a few who showed interest, compared to the total characters present.
    a. Whilst practicing the script the voice actors can possibly come up with multiple characters
    b. All voice actors post samples for in their opinion they are best in.
    c. In the meantime, more voice actors can join in and we can invite more ourselves. I will ask IPAndrews of Bablyon5 for a list of voice actors he is using and maybe we can ask them if they are interested. Mobius, ShadowGorrath, are you ok with this?

5. The problem of who does what is not a problem at the moment. The answer will obviously be that the best guys for the part will be chosen, but it is useless to worry about this at this stage IMHO.

This is how I suggest we should go about it. However, feel free to scrap all this :)

That's why I created the other thread here, to get a list of active actors of the community...things seem disorganized here.

Id like to voice the 3characters

1) The historian who narrates the epilogues

2) The person delivers that briliant Earth Supreme spech in the last proper mission of the final campaign (Cant remember if it was the Nemesis captain of EA Command)

3) That EA official who anounces the GTA being reborn as EA.

...I would also ask if we can somewhere insert the line "This is not War. This is pest-control!"

Sure i did steal that line from the Daleks, but it suits the EA attitude perfectly...

That's why I created the other thread here, to get a list of active actors of the community...things seem disorganized here.

Individual mod teams are responsible for organizing their VA's and protocols. If you like an example of how to do so, here is my thread for my ROBOTECH 2.0 project...

http://www.game-warden.com/forum/showthread.php?t=4252

First you have people do demo lines so YOU get an idea of what they sound like.

Second heard them toward a role you think fits them best.

Third provide the lines with emotional cues and tone (happy, scared, Angry, stoic) etc... Also tempo (fast, slow, normal) when needed for clarification.

I usually have good luck just letting go through it themselves until they find somethign that flows well for them instead of 100% sticking to the dialog I wrote.

That sounds wrong. I'll try for any voice role. I'll post a demo in the main acting forum. :nervous: soon'ish.

I know its been a while since anyone posted, but I've played through S:aH several times, and I'd be willing to take a crack at helping get it voice acted. Plus, I have good software, I could probably do some adjustment to create different voices.

I'm willing to try voice acting, I just hope no one minds a British person with no prior VO experience giving a go. I might not have the clearest mic, so would I have to clean it up?

I am very interested (even if a bit late, and...the campaign is not that long!).
I would gladly submit a sample for an "audition" given any supplied line(s).
I use Audacity.
Contact me here at Hard-Light, or at [email protected]

Thanks,

ShadowGorrath,

Geez! I hope he does.
Well, even though I'm late...I'm here!
Damn...and I even bought the uniform.

What DID he mean about an A-cup weapon?

The FSCRP is no longer involved in voice acting, I guess.

If I'm not too late and you don't mind a Voice Acting noob I'd be willing to take a small role. I'm sure I'm younger than you're looking for but I have a very deep voice and am frequently mistaken for my middle aged father over the phone.
