Title: Custom Title
Post by: Rico on March 29, 2008, 12:52:33 am
G'day,
I just noticed m custom title yesterday and wasnt too pleased at it  :wtf:
To be rather frank I am alittle offended by it and would like it changed to something else, who would have the ability to do this?
Thankyou,
Rico

Ahem.

Hi Rico.  Enjoy your new title.
It seems you asked for it. And custom titles can indeed only be given/taken away by the divine entities known as Administrators. Titan got his one for losing interest into mission design farily quickly. You, apparently, went on and posted a comment on that thread before reading it through.

Nobody who has posted "me wants my custom title changed" has ever gotten their custom title changed. The best way to change a custom title now is to do something useful for the community (like model a HTL Colossus, for example).

p.s. Cliffs are fun.

The more you complain the less likely it will be changed.

Well if someone finds their tital offensive I would expect it changed  :wtf:

You think I like being called a cliffhanger? Or Cobra likes being called a perpetual n00b? Or VC being called The biggest n00b on hlp?

If you haven't noticed, Custom Titles aren't happy things; they are evil. Eeeeeevill, I say!

I'm waiting for Goober to comment before I say anythin more. But to be frank that is pushing the code of conduct to the limits
Title: Re: Custom Title

Like Snail already said. Complaining gets you nowhere. Moby claimed that his "Rainbow Brite" title was "offensive", and he complained about it a lot. The administrators didn't care since they didn't view it as "offensive" but as something that supported the fact that Mobius's posts had gone through a variety of colours. The battle went on, and eventually... it was changed; to "Rainbow Not-So-Brite".

And what Snail also said already. Do something constructive that benefits the entire community and maybe, just maybe, you'll get a "good" title.

Seriously, my friend, you better quit while you're ahead. I'm sure if you complain any more Goober or someone else who's been having a bad day will decide to do something much worse than give you a bad custom title.

Title: Re: Custom Title
Post by: Rico on March 29, 2008, 07:27:11 am
I laugh at myself all the time, but that's just plain silly  :doubt:

I suggest this whole topic be deleted, its way off topic and out of context, once the admins read the point they can delete the topic and either fix the title or not, see what happens.
Title: Re: Custom Title
Post by: Hades on March 29, 2008, 11:30:14 am
It is just a title it will not make anyone disrespect you. This is just a joke that the administrators do to every one who does something stupid.
Do something good and that might 1. Get it removed 2. Get a new title.

In addition the post count was set to 0 ("Back where he started").

Someone picks up something you do, not what you do in general, and writes a title based on it. Mine was changed to Rainbow Not-So Brite only because I legitimately complained about a stupid and childish title, not because my colours changed once again.

I'd like to know if what I do for the FSCRP, Inferno and all other minor things are going to remain unknown.

Titles are overrated. I vote they be gone altogether :doubt:
Jealous?

I'd say sick. The interesting thing is that the CT system basically is in Goober's hands, who's not even the head Administrator here. WMCoolmon accused his CTs(plus MANY other things :P) and I can only agree with him.

It's Goober, not the whole Administratorship. I think someone like Kalfireth and IceFire should really try to accept the complains of the community....

Look, Kara fanboy. Even Karajorma himself agreed with Goobah that your self-righteous posturing was reaching critical mass and that if you continued you would be hit hard. And so you did.
Title: Re: Custom Title
Post by: Mobius on March 29, 2008, 11:55:52 am
Karajorma replied with a "it's how things have always worked here" or something like that, meaning that we can't choose our own custom titles because it never worked this way(we=normal members).

As I said, my complaints were legitimate. This thread proves that some titles are disgusting...and there's no point to make people sick without a a valid reason.

Complaints of the community? The only ones I can recall right away are your crusade against Rainbow Brite, Rico's hatred towards his, and the occasional newb "Why can't I set myself a custom title?!!1" comment. In other cases it is usually so that a person admits he did something stupid, a person is commended for outstanding work with a title, or the witty sarcasm of the title fails when the user is actually excited for getting a title, no matter what it says.

If there are several other complaints, please, let me know. With examples, if possible.

Jokes are funny when they DON'T last long, not when they remain fixed.

Kazan complained about his monkey status(which was strictly connected to his title and vice versa). Now try to call him a n00b :P

WMCoolmon's complaints?

Speaking of CT related complains, do you really think that people should just accept silly CTs? What's the point in locking degenerate threads if offenses are legitimately accepted thanks to the CTs? :wtf:

It won't be long before someone locks this thread, however. I hope someone gets the message.

This is starting to be some serious overreacting. If person A says "STFU N00B 101" to person B somewhere on a street, should person A face court martial and be banished from society? And previously you mentioned that jokes should vanish quickly. No. If you do something stupid once in real life, you'll hear about it for a long time. I once gave a somewhat stupid answer on a physics lesson and heard about it for about two years. That's how it is. You do something stupid just once and the people will continue to remind you about it.

And it really isn't that bad if one gets a custom title for doing or saying something stupid at HLP. Otherwise, we can and will be a newb-friendly and polite community in every way. Go to some other forums, ask something and half of the members will start flaming you and telling you to shut up and such. I'd concider that more offensive than just a tiny little custom title somewhere along the line.

That much is correct. If you look at the titles people used to receive five or six years ago and compare them to what typically gets handed out now, there is a remarkable difference.

When you get down to it though, who cares? I don't think it's even worth the effort to complain about something like this.

And I rather like mine in any case. :D

Listen to the minions.  They know what's good for them. :D

Now, on a more serious note.  Custom titles are given out based on the whims of the administrators; they always have been.  Even before I was an administrator.  Complimentary titles have always been given out, and insulting titles have always been given out.  I admit I might give them out more frequently than the other admins, but aside from that, nothing has changed.

If you have an unflattering custom title and don't like it, then do something about it.  Release a mission, or a mod, or a cutscene.  The general idea is that if you do something notable, you get a custom title until you do something else notable.  Complaining about it, however, is not likely to do you any good.

Take Kazan as an example.  He had a complimentary title as a result of his work on PCS1.  Then he got in a bunch of political and religious threads, and got a series of insulting titles.  Then he cleaned up his act and released PCS2, and he got a complimentary title again.

You're misunderstanding me...I complain about ALL silly titles, not only the one I have and I think it's a good time to change(A Joke Is Funny When It Doesn't Last LongTM).

Give silly titles but change them after a while or they will result boring. I hard believe that a person does nothing interesting enough to deserve a title.

You see? This is what you get when you don't read other people's posts. I already explained that these things linger. Do something stupid and people will remind you about it for a long time. And many people already noted that if you do something equally or more interesting, the title just might change. You can't blame people, if they just don't do anything interesting after one blooper.

I guess they're fun which is why they exist.
Maybe, its like the Avatars for the Admins, taunting us and how we can't set it ourselves like on other forums...

I actually like that. It better reinforces the feeling of the hierarchy.

It does take away the individuality of the members though :doubt:

I've stated on some occasions that I don't see no harm in letting everyone have an avatar. Of course there should be some reasonable limitations, like max 100x100 pixels and no animations.

Ok then. We have no individuality anymore.
This is what happens when people are allowed to have pictures on their signatures (http://www.razyboard.com/system/morethread-geschichteinarbeithilflesergesucht-sasusaku-1707566-4496337-0.html). (Hosi123 rokzorz!!1)

Srsly, the administrators are sure to be aware of your evil scheme, which is why they're ignoring you until you stop that.

I don't really see what's wrong with Mobius's CT. Is it that "brite" actually stands for "bright," in the sense of "clever?" And why rainbow?

In reality, there is nothing wrong with it. But, if you ask Mobius about it, he'll state the following:

1. "Brite" should be "Bright", since "Brite" is obviously a typo.
2. It is "childish" because Rainbow Brite is the name of some kids' show.
3. The word "Rainbow" is misleading, since his posts went through only about 5 colours or such, and that doesn't equal to a rainbow.
4. He thinks its insulting, because he couldn't possibly understand the custom title, unless he had actually watched the entire Rainbow Brite series.
5. He has stated numerous times that he doesn't actually care about his custom title, but still he raised a hell about it for several weeks.

Did I miss some part?
Sigh

Here's my ass.

On a related matter, I do hope that Rico has now learned the true meaning of custom titles.
Yes, they are pointless and stupid .
I think that you should have a choice if u want to have them tho, to be frank a bad CT could cause creative people to leave HLP, last night I was at the point of moving over to Freespacemods.net perminantly and taking my mod there because I thought the CT was offensive and thus didnt want to hang with 'idiots'. I still think its stupid but after seeing some of the responces its clearly a joke thing so I aint gonna take it so serious... perhaps  :drevil:.
Still, I think its abit overboard at times, why not have it blank and u only get a CT when u do something productive, eg: Inferno Leader, or SCP coder etc. Atleast then they are productive and positive things, atm they can be counter productive.
Just my 2c's anyway

Why not? It's quite easy to back it up to, say, a text file and then bring back when the time is right.

no. he but a line and put images in, then clicked "don't show sig".
No. He removed his sig. Just quote him and see. And that's your solution: make "manual" signatures at the end of each of your posts. And see how long you'll survive, before the administrators destroy you.

Is too. But it's the kind that allows you not to see everyone's signatures.

Actually, when you click "Don't show signatures" it makes all sigs invisible to you.

This isn't Patriotism Land. This is a FreeSpace related forum. Loving your country is nice, but try to limit it here. Don't fiddle a huge, shiny and (on some browsers) malfunctioning flag into your signature. Just write "Canada rocks" or something.

Well flags in signatures are not nearly as annoying as really long ones. At least in my opinion.

Paradise Lost

Of Man's first disobedience, and the fruit
Of that forbidden tree whose mortal taste
Brought death into the World, and all our woe,
With loss of Eden, till one greater Man
Restore us, and regain the blissful seat,
Sing, Heavenly Muse, that, on the secret top
Of Oreb, or of Sinai, didst inspire
That shepherd who first taught the chosen seed
In the beginning how the heavens and earth
Rose out of Chaos: or, if Sion hill
Delight thee more, and Siloa's brook that flowed
Fast by the oracle of God, I thence
Invoke thy aid to my adventurous song,
That with no middle flight intends to soar
Above th' Aonian mount, while it pursues
Things unattempted yet in prose or rhyme.
And chiefly thou, O Spirit, that dost prefer
Before all temples th' upright heart and pure,
Instruct me, for thou know'st; thou from the first
Wast present, and, with mighty wings outspread,
Dove-like sat'st brooding on the vast Abyss,
And mad'st it pregnant: what in me is dark
Illumine, what is low raise and support;
That, to the height of this great argument,
I may assert Eternal Providence,
And justify the ways of God to men.

Say first—for Heaven hides nothing from thy view,
Nor the deep tract of Hell—say first what cause
Moved our grand parents, in that happy state,
Favoured of Heaven so highly, to fall off
From their Creator, and transgress his will
For one restraint, lords of the World besides.
Who first seduced them to that foul revolt?

Th' infernal Serpent; he it was whose guile,
Stirred up with envy and revenge, deceived
The mother of mankind, what time his pride
Had cast him out from Heaven, with all his host
Of rebel Angels, by whose aid, aspiring
To set himself in glory above his peers,
He trusted to have equalled the Most High,
If he opposed, and with ambitious aim
Against the throne and monarchy of God,
Raised impious war in Heaven and battle proud,
With vain attempt. Him the Almighty Power
Hurled headlong flaming from th' ethereal sky,
With hideous ruin and combustion, down
To bottomless perdition, there to dwell
In adamantine chains and penal fire,
Who durst defy th' Omnipotent to arms.
Nine times the space that measures day and night
To mortal men, he, with his horrid crew,
Lay vanquished, rolling in the fiery gulf,
Confounded, though immortal. But his doom
Reserved him to more wrath; for now the thought
Both of lost happiness and lasting pain
Torments him: round he throws his baleful eyes,
That witnessed huge affliction and dismay,
Mixed with obdurate pride and steadfast hate.
At once, as far as Angels ken, he views
The dismal situation waste and wild.
A dungeon horrible, on all sides round,
As one great furnace flamed; yet from those flames
No light; but rather darkness visible
Served only to discover sights of woe,
Regions of sorrow, doleful shades, where peace
And rest can never dwell, hope never comes
That comes to all, but torture without end
Still urges, and a fiery deluge, fed
With ever-burning sulphur unconsumed.
Such place Eternal Justice has prepared
For those rebellious; here their prison ordained
In utter darkness, and their portion set,
As far removed from God and light of Heaven
As from the centre thrice to th' utmost pole.
Oh how unlike the place from whence they fell!
There the companions of his fall, o'erwhelmed
With floods and whirlwinds of tempestuous fire,
He soon discerns; and, weltering by his side,
One next himself in power, and next in crime,
Long after known in Palestine, and named
Beelzebub. To whom th' Arch-Enemy,
And thence in Heaven called Satan, with bold words
Breaking the horrid silence, thus began:—
