Title: Kotor?
Post by: starlord on March 31, 2008, 01:17:01 pm
Hi, simple question: Does star wars KOTOR and KOTOR 2 feature good space combat? In short, Is it worth my money? (I'm only interested in space combat, However, I may take a game with FPS elements, as long as it has good space combat: This way I bought mace griffin: bounty hunter for PC and was quite pleased (although I had to endeavour past the FPS sequences)).

You tell me what your judgement is please!

best regards.

Yeah, but does it feature space combat? (in the episode of the star forge for instance)?

Does it feature space combat? In KotOR, yes... you get to control a turret of your space ship in repetitive mandatory arcade minigame to shoot down Sith fighters. Good space combat? No. Is it worth your money? If you are only interested in space combat, no. But it's a Damn Good Game and you should play it if you have any interest in Star Wars games in general... KotOR 2: Sith Lords was a disappointment when it was published like it was, missing a lot of the stuff planned for it, but it was a Good Game in it's own right too - apart from game-stopping bugs and other glitches that is. Just not a Damn Good Game like the first one.

Knights of the Old Republic games are third person party-based action/adventure role playing games. There's not even usable first person view (you can watch around but not do anything else from your character's viewpoint), so no FPS, and only a couple arcade minigames involving any kind of vehicles. The gameplay consists of walking around, interacting with NPC's that have something to interact, blasting enemies to tiny bits and solving quests as you go. I loved the first KotOR and I'm a major simulator junkie, though, so you might as well either buy it or rent it to at least play through once.

Basically, buying KOTOR as a space combat game is kind of like buying Halo as a driving game.

Pity, Perhaps someone will be able to implant some KOTOR stuff (sith ships (especially that huge one) etc... Into a campaign for the star wars MOD, Would be cool!

I still think Kreia has the best written dialogue of any character in the Star Wars universe.

Except for HK-47.

I still think Kreia has the best written dialogue of any character in the Star Wars universe.

Spoilers between the lines and on them.

She was the most annoying, frustrating sithspit chutta NPC I've ever had the honor to have to have in my group. I kept always choosing the option that would make her most furious. Undoubtedly her dialogue was well written but the character itself really just wasn't very well thought IMHO.
Spoiler:
And seeimg what kind of ideology the old white-eyes was spawning at the player character, her true identity wasn't really much of a surprise in the end.

I actually hope that Team Gizka or someone would make a mod where you could dump her out the air lock or perhaps just leave somewhere to rot. Peragus perhaps. Or whatever. Just get the bantha poodoo out of my hair... :ick:

Spoiler:
Yes however sometimes she was bastilla from KOTOR 1 and sometimes not, besides she plays a pretty mayor role so spacing her might not be that pratical, no matter how tempting

Wait, what? :shaking:

Spoiler:
Did I misunderstand or are you saying that occasionally it's actually Bastila in your group instead of Kreia? Or that some glitch makes Kreia use Bastila's model or what the hell?

I've never seen this happen. What kind of circumstances lead to this?

I second that the KOTOR series is not for space combat. Otherwise, it is pretty damn good. Over time, I have came to like more of Kotor II, rather than I. Maybe because of the shades of gray they have set in the game, while the first one is pretty much black or white.

Luckily, the Sith Lords Restoration project will be completed soon, and some of the cut material will be restored. It is in beta testing phase where closed beta testers have sent comments about the game, and based on them it sounds like the restored game feels like a complete game!

Spoiler:
Besides, the original plotline sounded pretty decent, letting you actually redeem Kreia, while the final Sith Lord would have been either Kreia or Atris, depending on choises that the player has made. Unfortunately, this has been cut in quite early phase of the design, so it will not be restored. Also, they have changed the outlook of Atris, she was somewhat younger in the development art...

Spoiler:
No But sometimes in the end of the game she tells you that she is bastilla and she dont understand why revan left etc. and sometimes you actually see bastilla with Carth in the cutscene after the fight over telos.

Spoiler:
Kreia can't have been Bastilla since she's the one who originally taught Revan.

WTF??? I SAY WTF???

I finished the game twice..there's no way Kreia is Bastilla.
You misunderstood something there. First of all, she's waaaay too old compared to Carth. Secondly, she never said that when I played the game. Thirdly, I was modding KOTOR 2 and spent some time on the lucasarts starwarsknights forums, and haven't heard anything of the sorts. So NO.
That information is incorrect.

You do see Bastilla in a cutscene with Carth though, depending on how you defined Revan during dialog about the previous game.  Other then that, I don't know what the hell that Bastilla is Kreia comment was supposed to mean.  I'm thinking it wasn't meant to be taken literally and a poor choice in phrasing is the source of our confusion.
