You know, the one from StarCraft. Protoss. (The original, not the sequel, that one looks like a goat's skull.)
Sure, Blizzard owns it, but if we keep it non-profit and don't do anything stupid like say "Blizzard made this" or something, I don't think they'll notice/care.
Any takers?
-
If you want something done. Do it yourself. Unless you're too busy or don't know jack about it. In that case, ask nicely.
'Tis a good creedo to live by. :p
However, a Protoss Carrier would be cool. With the right reskinning, we can pass it off as a Ancients ship too :P.
That's what we'll say if Blizzard asks.
-
I know it would be cool. And I would do it myself, but I can't model to specs... my modeling is more procedural than goal-oriented (sort of).
"Please?" (as suggested by Droid803 in the above post)

You may wish to talk to these people. They may be able to point you in some usefull directions. http://www.wc3campaigns.net/revolution/index.php (http://www.wc3campaigns.net/revolution/index.php)

I am aware of that site, however I do not believe they have released any of their material to the public, and I doubt they intend to any time soon.

Okay so that team is transferring one RTS to another RTS engine? What the hell's the point of that?

One is in 2D and the other is in 3D. It's for pretty graphics.

Still no takers?

:bump:
So I've done a few searches (many actually) on Google and have found two kinds of things. 1: Really bad stuff. 2: Decent stuff with not way to get it.
No exceptional stuff--and actually, I don't think even the bad stuff is obtainable. Would nobody like to see a Protoss Carrier in the FreeSpace engine?
-
Do it yourself. Don't say your modeling is "not goal orientated" - learn how and make it a project.
-
Ok, I've made a start at it.
Here's what I've made compared to what the people working on Project Revolution made.

Doesn't look too bad. Keep it up. I'd like to see this in-game. :)

I thought FS2 had issues with smooth curved surfaces ?
-
Well it handles the sobek just fine...doesn't it?
-
Hmmm. I guess. But I've always thought the Carrier had a perfectly smooth curved hull, and I don't think FS2 supports that kind of smoothness.
-
Why wouldn't it? It's just a model.
-
... I dunno. But I've never actually seen any perfectly smooth surfaces in FS2, or at least as far as I can remember so I guess I sorta got the impression that FS2 can't handle it.

:wtf:
Models are made up of connected polygons. If you want a surface to be smoother, you just use more polygons to smooth out the surface. There's no technology there for FS to 'not support'. :p
-
I think he's talking about smoothed normals. But the last time I checked, FS supported that :wtf:
-
I think he's talking about more like NURBS-style smoothness. Of course FS2 doesn't support that, it'd be a waste of time trying to support it, because the results would be more resource-costly than with polygons, and for minimal appearance improvement.

I guess you're right. Besides, if this baby gets in game, I'd probably spend more time gawking at it then close-eyeing its curves.

just normal map the damn thing
-
Ok, I did the basics, and uv'd onto it a side-view image of the rotating sprite I uploaded earlier. Does anybody want to take over?
