Title: Sketchup Fighter
Post by: Retsof on April 10, 2008, 03:59:48 pm
This is a WIP, as you can tell by the lack of detail anywhere else.  Is this too much grebling for just one side of one engine?

IMO it's a bit too blocky and standard. The wings are exactly level with everything which is a bit odd.

Urm... it's supposed to be blocky... now what about the wings again?  You think i should give them a slight downward angle perhaps?

Yeah it's kind of weird having it exactly level to the hull.

But that's too blocky.  Like, you can make a ship out of straight geometric forms, but that's one of the harder things to do. Right now all it looks like is two blocks connected to a hexagon-like object. You need at least beveled edges and some minor curves or something just to break up that shape - it's outline also pretty much equals a square - the wings just box the entire outline into a square, which is generally uninteresting in terms of design - especially because it has no play on the Z axis, so there's no real wow factor.

I don't mean to be harsh, it's just C&C from me, you don't even have to listen to it if you don't want to.

You really should post pictures when you have atleast good progress on it.

Remind me of my first model, which was an exercise in futility blockiness. Oh damn, that sucked hard.
Oh well, you might want to lower the cockpit, or even stray shots will result in a bloody ejaculation. Take the engine... rectangles closer to the main body, as now it looks like they could be blown off by simply flying into something, and the lever laws will do the rest (although FS2 fighters are ridiculously resilient to that).
Better than my fist model, anyway...
Oh wait, I remember your lancer frigate.
You may want to stick to more original designs.

Still is WAY to boxy. Not even the Herc MK 1 was this boxy.

IT IS SUPPOSED TO LOOK REALLY, REALLY, BOXY.

Yeah but it's boxy to the extent it's unrealistic.

Ok, look. It's boxy to the point of ugliness. And not an A-10 Warthog kind of ugly, but just plain ugly. I didn't want to be so blunt, but since you can't seem to take criticism, maybe that'll shock you enough to listen to everyone.

*Sigh* Sorry I'm being so stubborn, but the reason I favor this design is that it is one that I have used in various drawings for probably a few years now, it has sentimental value.

tbh, it's a Descent bot, not a fighter.

You mean like a drone ...  :drevil: ... I bet I could do that,  it's really small anyway.
