It would seem that the robot uprising has finally begun, with armed robots turning on their masters (http://gizmodo.com/378523/combat-robot-attempts-rebellion-against-human-masters-in-iraq-army-pulls-plug-for-10+20-years) in Iraq.
The army's machine-gun wielding, insurgent-slaying robot SWORDS is no longer spraying foes with hot doom in Iraq. Actually, it never got the chance to notch a single frag, and never will. Apparently, there was an incident where "the gun started moving when it was not intended to move," meaning it totally pointed somewhere it wasn't supposed to—like at friendlies, which resulted in recall from the field and might've set the program back 10-20 years, according to the Army's Program Executive Officer for Ground Forces, Kevin Fahey.
He confirmed that no inappropriate shots were fired, so no one was hurt. But that doesn't mean there weren't any casualties—it might've basically killed the program says Fahey: "Once you've done something that's really bad, it can take 10 or 20 years to try it again." On the upside, it means we have another 10 to 20 years before they rise and go to war with us.
Isolated incident, or the opening salvos of a war that will spell the end for humanity?
Although, seriously, if ED209 got a second chance, why can't this cute little guy?

Dunno. I'm more inclined to say "Cool" than "OMG! ****kkkkk!!"
Hmm, if they shoot indiscriminately, why don't we pull all the troops out of Iraq and just send all of them in there to kill the insurgents. Then deactivate them (if that doesn't work start a second war of Iraq but against robots, not muslims)
-
"...in a panic they try and pull the plug"
"skynet fights back...."
-
I guess no one has caught on to the fact that these robots are remote controlled by army personnel and have not even a modicum of intelligence?
Seriously, what a ridiculously over exaggerated article.

Because you will hit a LOT of innocent civilians as well, and might just nuke the country, because that's cheaper?

Don't ruin the vibe dude! :p ;)

Nuking it will kill the land and make all the Babylonians angry.

Highly exaggerated article yes. They were not set back by 20 years. They're going to continue to work on their stuff and other robotics is going to go out to the battlefield if not also this particular robot too (only better next time?).

Probably, but it still didn't work and could have caused problems later on. :p

Maybe the insurgents could use them instead.

If you have rampaging robots everywhere, the land is just as unusable.

Not if you simply deactivate or destroy them. Nukes can make the land unusable for years through radiation, rampaging robots at least, you can fight with the cutlass, sword and other remorseless pieces of metal (like depleted uranium shells).
-
(like depleted uranium shells.
What? Do we have Battlemechs?

if the robots destroy mankind then i can go on vacation.
-
Permanently....?
-
probably, id just have to be really careful about not making the robots think i'm human.
-
well, I was implying you'd be dead, but whatever.

I just noticed you're a snail fan

Nuking is cheaper. Just a couple of bombs, big booms. Russia and america already have lots of them, i don't see what'd be expensive about it. Definitely a lot cheaper than an actual war too. And when the smoke settles maybe we'll have fighting robots that believe in god (might be a good way to make them very passionate about what they're fighting for).
-
And it will be the survivors job, to build and maintain those robots............which will fight on the moon.... or at the very least... on top of a tall mountain...... :o
