Title: Little SW render
Post by: Jabu on February 17, 2002, 07:54:53 pm
Bloody big pic. Took me around an hour to set up, I'm still a tad rusty since this is my first render in months.

Okay, so I may have gotten some odd details wrong, but it's been over a year since I last saw the damn movies.

Sorry about the crappy pic quality, GIMP's been acting up a lot recently and I just didn't have the patience to render the damn thing again.

...

Sig-go-away-now. Fast.

Neat. Did use XWA for the models?

Nah. I got them readily converted to .blend format from Blenderwars.com

Lucky break, that. SWMA's still not up at it's usual address and besides, I suck at converting stuff :p

Oh yeah.

SOMEONE FIND ME PROPER NEBULA BACKGROUNDS , please.

I had to use a low-res pic of a real nebula. That's why it sucks.

Nice though a bit too dark.

As for the nebula, why don't you use a Photoshop plug-in called Glitterato? I use it for some of my renders. And get LunarCell too if you intend to add in planets.

Oooh, niiice. At first I thought it was a Hippocrates and an Aeolus. Someone should do that.

I would if I could find my PSP6 CD again. Right now I'm stuck using GIMP, which is a damn good program, though, once you get used to it.

I DID use Glitterato and LunarCell a lot, but unfortunately forgot to back all my planets and nebulae up when I formatted.

Hey, who did the Nebulon-B frigate?
I like it, though it looks like the two closest X-Wings are going to ram the dreadnought...:D

Frigate appears to have some errors in its model, consult the "Guide to essentail vehicles and vessels".

Xwings have a odd engine color, go with a faint red.

Dreadnaught needs to have a more whitish engine glow

Laser effects could use some work.

Overall good though, keep it up.

:nod::yes:
good job! I completely agree with Narol...although the X-Wing engine glolw instead of faint red maybe more whitish with a tiny bit of red. Keep them coming, cuz I love Star Wars and I can't seem to find a lot of good SW backrounds

The Neb-B is of unknown origin. It says so in the readme :p

Hey, I said I hadn't even seen the movies in a year. That is my first SW render too.

And hey, I use Blender. Not exactly the greatest package in existence.

Don't go by a modeler's concept, find the source material or at least some official gaming books.
Stats anyone?

Craft: Kuat Drive Yards' Nebulon-B Frigate
Type: Escort Starship
Scale: Capital
Length: 300 meters
Crew: 854, gunners: 66, skeleton: 307/+10
Passengers: 75 (troops)
Cargo Capacity: 6000 metric tons
Consumables: 2 years

 That's real nice. I like the setting up... I won't criticise yet, I'll let you get back into gear first. ;)

PS. I'd do up some backgrounds for you, except, I... no, wait, you probably don't want to know.

No, sci-fi geek.  I can quote the same stuff on a sh*tload of Star Terk or B5 stuff too.  For instance.
That is NOT a T'Loth class cruiser.
The T'Loth has been in a few episodes, what he has pictured above is this.

Model: Narn Th'Nor-class Assault Cruiser
Class: Light Cruiser / Frigate
Crew: 150 (6 Officers and 144 Enlisted)
Troops: 60
Height: 394 feet (120 meters)
Length: 2626 feet (800 meters)
Width: 1641 feet (500 meters)
Weight: 5.3 million tons (4.8 million metric tons)
Power System: 2 Fusion Reactors (5 year duration). However, it was recommended that the drive and power system have routine maintenance every 2 years. Also, the ship only carries about a two month supply of reaction mass.
Cargo: 80,000 tons
Cost: 5.3 billion credits to construct

Cuz there are many SW fans/geeks out there...like me! I could probably quote a lot of the stuff from the movies or some books.
and where did you get those models? cuz I would really like to do some SW renders if I had the models (I only have an X-wing right now :()

SW models, A copy of the mil. falcon, the B-wing, and an x-wing.
The models I've made myself of them don't look like anything to brag about, but I have models I've found online all have monstrously huge polycounts.
A whitestar I found has over 50,000.  Looks great but damn!
That's why I was asking what models were being used in the t'loth picture earlier, because as massive as the whitestar's count is, I don't want to even try the sharlatains.   Must have a nice damn machine

yes venom I will reach across the wide Atlantic Ocean and bit you in France from all the way here in Connecticut!!!!  :D

Anybody have hyperlinks or addresses for SW model downloads?
Title: Little SW render

I'd reccomend doing a search for "Star Wars (Your preferred modeling system here) meshes'

And no, I don't have all that memorized, if I did, well, I would be shooting for one of the spots on 'meet the geeks'.

Now though, I can probably quote you the stats on half the Terran fighters in FS...

Steak, remind me to introduce you to my friend Molly. She's got the entirety of the Bab5 Wars rules memorized. She's THAT sort of person. Walking RPG/wargame/videogame reference. *heh*
