Ive been running across this error and I cant seem to figure out what the problem is...It only seems to be doing this with the Loki, Fenris/Leviathan, and the SD Lucifer from the Derelict Campaign...Heres some screenies
If you look closely it looks like the skins are broken...Dunno what the problem is...

My system specs are as follows:

AMD Turion 64 x2 Mobile Technology TL-60 2.00 GHz
2GB RAM
160GB HD
ATI Radeon X1200 Graphics Card

Your graphics card isn't very nice...
what build are you using?

:welcome:
Do you have glow and shine maps turned on in the launcher? That wouldn't explain the dark patches on the ships, but it would explain the apparent dullness of the textures.
Have you got the latest video drivers for that card? That'd be a place to start. :)

IM using the most up to date stuff for SCP, as far as the graphics are concerned, I just got this laptop back on the 7th of this month so afaik the cards all up to date, but I'll take a look at it, though it runs perfectly with all the VPs turned on, better than my old desktop computer ran it...
So I'll check that out right quick
EDIT:
Driver is up to date

That doesn't mean they're turned on though. ;)
Just in case that's the problem: in the launcher, go to the features tab and select graphics from the list type drop down menu. Enable specular, glowmaps and mipmapping to start with, and then test it in-game to see if it worked.
If not, check what exe you're running - is it 3.6.9 or above?

Just because your laptop is 7 months old doesn't necessarily mean it has the mobile equivalent of the GeForce 8800. :P

He's saying that the drivers are up to date.

Be that as it may, but those screens still shout "Hey, I'm not enabling glowmaps!" at yer face. Or IDK. With these damn computers, you can never truly know what the hell is going on.

Note that he is stating that he acquired the rig on the 7th day of this month, not 7 months ago. Nitpicking, I know...

Meh, I misread.
The x1200 is also a piece of junk. :nervous:

And I've got it's younger brother... I double suck.

I took the screen shots with the glow maps and stuff turned off...It wont make a bit of difference with JPEG, Minimapping, specular etc all turned on...

Try deleteing your /Freespace/data/cache folder
-
Deleted Cache....No good...-.-;

I'm getting the same spiky stuff with the 3.6.10b VPs.

Have you tried the "Disable setting of Gamma"-Switch ? (It's in the Launcher under Troubleshoot)
I had similar problems with my X1250, and disabling the above helped.
