Put the extracted VP in yourfreespacegamefolder/fsport/

Yup. Extract the vp from the zip and place it to \freespace\fsport. If it's still not working, check how big it is. It should be 46.8 megs. If it is something else (mainly smaller), it is corrupt and if redownloading doesn't help, there are some issues at the server end. If that's the case, do say so and I can temporarily upload my warble_fs1.vp somewhere, since it has worked so far.

On a related note, I am assuming that everything else is working with the Port (different main hall, some different ships, you can play the FS1 campaign), right?

yeah everything works fine(expect the music which I'm working on) thanks.
The warble file is the right size (46.8 megs).

Hmm. I'm running out of ideas. Do you hear even the FS2 music or is there a complete silence?

Chances are that link will help you sort out the problem as you have a corrupt OpenAL install. (This only applies if you're running FS2_Open and not FS2 retail).

I'm running FS2
(Opps press post too fast) I can't hear the FS 1 music all that happens is the FS 2 music plays instead.

This is where it becomes very important whether you are running FS2_Open or retail. FS2_Open introduced a mod system which means that the correct place for VP files is in Freespace2\NameOfMod\

Retail FS2 does not have this system. As a result the correct place for mod VPs is in Freespace2\ Unlike FS2_Open you must ONLY install one mod at a time. If you install say FS1Port and Inferno on retail you will get all manner of strange things happening.

Ok so what should I do?

If we want to do it by the book and from the start...

1. Make sure your \freespace2\ folder contains only the retail FS2 files.
2. Place all the FSPort files to \freespace2\, especially the warble_fs1.vp that seemed to be an issue previously.
3. If you want to be extra sure, add 00- in the beginning of the file name for all the FSPort files, so that they will definitely be read first.
4. When you want to go back to FS2, remove all the FSPort files from \freespace2\.

That is, if you were playing only retail FS2. With FSO, it would have been, oh, so much easier.

Delete all files except for the original FS2 .VPs. THis includes executables, DLLs, folders whatever.

Run the FreeSpace Open Installer that you will find in my sig. Make sure that you tell it to install to the same folder.

When this is done, install OpenAL from my signature.

Click Launcher.EXE, and set it up to your liking. If you need help, ask.

Click "Run".

You're done!
