Obviously, its not finished, but I just want to know if the overall design is good.  It will be about 750m long.  Where should I add details.  Also, for blender users, what is a good strategy for greebling.
BTW, i realize its not Freespacey at all.

It looks really flimsy, maybe bulk it up a little.

do you think the armor-wing things should be closer to the main part as well?

Nah, but you could probably mount some uberguns on the front tips.  (I'm a fan of large fixed weapons)

I was actuall going to have some large cannons between hull and wings.  The wing tips would be good too.  This is my first try with blender so...
The only thing i have no clue how to go about is adding greebles.

*Does not comment because something always goes wrong when discussing peoples first models

Uh . . . it has potential. The shape itself could be quite interesting, looks a bit like a Commonwealth ship from Renegade Legion actually (they have those wing-type things on the back). Obviously you're just starting out . . . so not sure how useful comments would be, but as some other people have said.

1. The centre mass needs to be really bulked up. Right now it looks like it's made out of a flat piece of wood at the front.

2. The connection point for the wings looks way too small. I think you'll need to expand that a bit as you progress further. I also wouldn't connect them at the top, it looks wierd. Or if you do connect them at the top then consider making the wings a bit smaller vertically. Though I might be wrong about teh wings, looks like they're better connected from the front on view.

But keep working at it, at first your models won't look like much but keep adding details and you'll really start to see the design. Though it helps to have some sort of design in mind from the start.

Thanks for advice.
Actually, I was kindof inspired by the Commonwealth ships.
Adding more detail is just intimiating.
I don't really know how to start or go about it.

I dunno if it helps, but I've uploaded a couple of images that show the progress of my model from a simple object to a relatively complex, detailed object. Be forewarned that each file is around 2mb as I essentially have 10 screencaps on each one (minus the GUI of Maya).

First a disclaimer, I've done all of one model, started one other. And before that did one incorrect. I'm no expert, but this is how I did it. Basically, how I approached it is just build a basic shape and then keep adding detail and more detail and more detail . . . at one point, I literally stopped and thought "this used to be a cube? How the hell did I turn it into this??"

But basically all I did was extrude, cut faces, move vertexes around, etcetera etcetera for like 2-3 days.

Hopefully you can find it helpful.

EDIT - btw that last pic is just some crap temp textures. Not the finished product texture wise . . hahahaha.

Here's some random ideas that might help you get inspired for how to proceed with your ship (or maybe not). I'm waiting for my laundry to finish, so I felt like doodling.
One thing I found helpful is just looking at other ships, freespace or otherwise and look at some of the shapes and details in them. That can be very helpful to draw inspiration from, doesn't mean you're copying . .. unless you are . .. but it can help give you ideas about the direction you want to go in.

eh . . . photoshop? Maybe you've heard of it?

OR, if you're talking about the Vasudan fighter - then Maya 8.5

I liked the middle left one.  I think i'll do something like that with a runway on top and some big guns under wings.  Thanks for inspiration.

Yeah that's the one closest to your original design I think. Some of the others I took on a tangent. I tried to make some sort of WC-esque carrier but it looked crappy, but to me your current hull looks a bit like a carrier or somesuch.

Yeah I have a wacom tablet, but not a cintiq. Wouldn't use it nearly enough to drop 3 grand on it.

i think the middle one should be the one you use, but i like the top one's pic, with it's little laser turrets firing.
