Are you guys going to have shields? I know it's supposed to be a near-exact translation, but adding shields would increase the life expectancy of the player by a lot :nod: since in HW it's common to lose a few destroyers, a handful of frigates, twenty or so corvettes, and untold numbers of fighters...

i dearly hope not... the point of homeworld fighter's are to stay alive as long as they can not do actural damage =]

Nope no shields, that's why balancing it totaly wil be hard

There really isnt any need for shields, most of the flyable ships will either be fast enough to evade fire (scouts, interceptors), or have enough armor to take a lot of hits (corvettes)

grrr Shrike you don't know wtf you're talking about again.
Fighters a very dangerous...if you know how to use them/control them.
Meh, early game on big maps swarms are devistatingly effective against ru ops.
as to the shield thing...since HW ships ain't got any shields....lol i would say leave them off :).....but if it's possible there should be a way to repair any hull damage the player has taken....possibly use one of the support ships as a repair vette and be able to dock the fighter to the support ship....or have the support ship dock to the fighter.....
either way....would make for a very nice carry over form HW.

Why do you think that GTA and PVN aquired shields from Shivans. Of course they could kick their a..es with the Banshe or Prometheus but they did get shield so that less pilots would die. Without them there would be no one to fly fighters or bombers and they would never win the war

as i said before Shrike, fighters can be deadly if you know how to use them....
ie, if you knew how to use them you would /not/ attack an HC with 2 ceptors and expect to win...jeeze...
what you could do is attack the HC with a swarm....and you WOULD win.....
Razor, did you play FS1? If i'm not mistaken, i do believe the terrans and the vasudans did /not/ have shields in the beginning:cool:

well acturally you CAN take out 2 HC's with a pair of interceptors.... with some luck a support frigate to refuel em and a ****LOAD of time...
styffy the goal of the Swarm is to do damage the goal of the Induvidual fighter is to survive...
also i aplogigise for my quite bad spelling as late.. but in the nick of time its been the sleeping ive been cutting away.

every ship in HW has the gaol of doing damage...
survival is secondary....why do you think strike craft can kami?......because doing damage is primary....surviving is not.

Kamakazie is "supposeingly" only for the most extreme of cases i know that most like to ram different size'ed strike craft into anything in multiplayer but think about the pilot...
whould you ram your little fighter into a Hostile Mothership if you could see that your forces where winning ? id personally not. but then again the Kiith's are fanatics in many cases.

Personally I think it a good idea, despite the trouble to give the ships a shield mesh. This could come in useful for future missions and campaigns, but to stay true to the homeworld storyline the shields could always be turned off in the main campaign that is planned.
Besides, being totally true to homeworld is good, but one must bare in mind that the game isn't always balanced the same as the storyline. Take for example the Turanic Raiders 'Lord' class carrier. It is said to be only half the size of a Taidan Heavy Cruiser, and yet in the game it is roughly the same size.
Things shouldn't always be taken as face value. Besides, like I have already said, the addition of shields or extra weaponary (not to much though) could be used in future projects/missions.
PS, to the Apoc project guys. Story I've been gone so long, life has unfortunately been taking its tolls again but I'm back now. Whats the present situe regarding sounds and music?

There all converted, only have to be set up for fs :)

What exactly do you mean by converted. As in extracted from HW:C and that is all or extracted and set up to the compressed wave format that FS2 uses (Microsoft ADPCM)?
One point I will put forward is to have 2 separate sound packages. One of high quality for the people with DSL, cable and other decent connections to download and another sound package that is low quality sounds for the other folks who are still running dial up modems (mostly 56k's).

Yeah there all converted Cat+HW to wav and are ready to set up for fs, i might try boosting up the qualaty, but that's for the cataclysm ones, seems like they are lower qualaty then the HW ones.

Not all but some of them do sound lower grade compared to HW.
I personally think the music in HW is better than cataclysm's. It's more atmouspheric and suited to the game. Cataclysms music is 'darker' but seems to bland. Now what I mean?
