Get FS Open Here:
http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,42854.0.html (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,42854.0.html)
Then download FSPort here:
http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/board,39.0.html (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/board,39.0.html)
I would guess that is your best bet if you want to play the original game, complete with SCP enhancements.
-
The installer should install fsport IIRC.
-
Oh right, yea, you can choose in the list. forgot :ick:

If it's the actual game, you know, "legal" 'n stuff, with cases and manuals and CDs, go to eBay or something. But if you just want to play, go with Turey's Installer. It's the simple way.
-
plus, it's completely legal to do it without owning the actually game. Freespace is freeware/open source software, nowadays.
-
/me slaps Titan around with a large trout
Baka. FreeSpace isn't freeware, nor is it open source. The game engine is open source. The FreeSpace Source Code Project (SCP) develops the engine. And that engine (FSO) is open source. But the actual game is still not freeware. All the models, textures, interface art, voices, sounds, the whole ****... it's still proprietary. The reason why we can have Turey's Installer do all the things it does is because we shut up. We don't go shouting "Woo! FreeSpace is free!" to Interplay. If we keep it down, Interplay doesn't care and we can continue to do this. But if we raise a fuss, they might do some unspeakable things, legalwise.

* Wonders why when cleaning his fish that it has internal bruises in the patern of titans face

I sense new people are not reading the stickies...Again...

Sorry, but I'm afraid that FS2 is available only in an analogue download. :p
-
OK Ive downloaded it...but its taken over 3 hours and its still downloading the needed items and the current KB is 9639 and increasing. Is this normal for my computer ( I have a Windows Vista)
-
:eek2: What kind of internet connection do you have? Three hours for 9 megabytes???!!! That's nothing. I don't know how much space a fresh install takes, though i'd estimate it around a couple of gigabytes.
-
Its a modem and the speed is as fast as a DSL can get.
-
Thing is I've extracted it from the inter net and extracted it and now im installing it. And that's what's taking so long
-
inter net
*smirky smirk* j/k.........
Is 9639 the connection speed or the downloaded file size?

That would be a killer connection speed in anything but bytes.

Could be bits...............MY phone-conn-web-walk thing (with sidebar gadget) displays in bits :p

Heh, I recall the days I got MY freespace ( conflict: freespace, as I'm french) :P
It was in a virgin store in lyon. you know one of those white label boxes. there was the whole saga inside: FS1, silent threat and FS2. Best thing is they were new and yet priced €9. A real bargain.
The only thing I can reproach to my freespace pack is the lack of FS1/ST voice briefs (absent in the french version). The fact that more than half of the silent threat single missions (including the destily of peace) weren't here (they must have had problems in translating), and the fact that FS2 could have sported also the op templar campaign like in the SOTY edition. Otherwise, real smooth (FS2 stayed in english, though. IMO it never got translated).
For those who don't know, the ST single missions and OP templar campaign can perfectly be asked for in the forums. they'll be sent with no problems.

no there is a blank page after everything is installed
all the files should be in /freespace
you had to manually create the directory, so i hope you know where they are

There's a file called Launcher.exe somewhere in your computer. Use it.
-
Ohhh ok I thought it would load a launcher onto my desktop
-
Ummm on second thought......
If its the hard drive C (which is my main hard drive and stores nearly all files)
Then it is not there. Perhaps I should reinstall it?
-
Where did you tell the installer to install it? It should be somewhere like c:\games\freespace or something...
-
Use the search function of Windows to look for anything that says freespace. Hopefully you'll find the folder where FreeSpace has been installed.
