Title: Latest build have widescreen target fix?
Post by: Thraka on April 21, 2008, 11:49:17 pm
I'm new here and I've used the FreeSpace Open Installer to download everything. I am playing at a widescreen res 1280x720 (and x800) and I've tried OpenGL and Direct3D8 (?why not 9?). The only thread I had on it was from a few months ago where a guy posted the code fix in a thread and people replied with it's working.

So I'm just curious if it's in the build I got from open installer (tried two fs2_open_3_6_9 and fs2_open_3_6_10-20071007T) or if it's in a different build? If it's a different build, can you point me to it? I don't want to have to worry about compiling it either :) Thanks for any help and thanks for keeping FS alive!

Look for the latest trunk build in the Recent Builds forum.  It should have the widescreen fix.

*cough* (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,52260.0.html)

Or just play with a forced 1024x768. It's a helluvalot more fun, too. That way the HUD and the rest of the interface elements look normal, instead of being violently stretched to different directions.

Edit:
I've tried OpenGL and Direct3D8 (?why not 9?).
Because Direct3D is evil and it sucks and so on. It is not supported. Play in OpenGL, period.

There should be a setting in your graphics card drivers that forcefully stretches any resolution to fit the screen or to forcefully make all resolutions comply with their aspect ratios so that they display with their correct aspect ratios and no stretching will occur.
