Title: Capital Ship missions

Well, as the title says. I was wondering if there are anymore capital ship missions out there, I've only so far found one where you blockade the Knossos jump node in a Deimos corvette and i want to get that feeling that i am a big heavily armed battleship ready to serve the GTVA!


Infact, why don't we (Well, when i say we i mean someone who knows how to Fred) make a campaign or a mini campaign at least, where you command a capital ship at all times! :nod:

Major changes need to be made to the game before you could fly capships effectively.  For one thing, they're big and slow, meaning that you can't really get around very well (its frustrating to move at 20 mps all the time too).  Another thing is that you have very little control over your turrets.  One on the most annoying things is that your screen is constantly pulsing red and when your turrets start to take damage, the subsystem damage list goes halfway down the screen.  Though if there is a mission out there that had the player fly a capship and was done well, I would like to see it.

I can't remember where i got the one i mentioned (The one with the deimos blockading the knossos) it was in a forum topic in missions i think

you can actually put a deimos like a valid ship for the player???

I`ve tried freeding some missions with other vessels rather than normal bomber or fighters and everytime I got the "not valid ship for player" or something like that :S

I believe you have to alter the table data for the capships to make them player-flyable.

So, you can fly capships if you really want to... but it is not all that fun, since you can't really do anything, and they are less maneuverable than a flying brick.

I managed by some bizarre consequence in INFA to become the ship targeted by the Megaera. (an Orion IIRC, it was a custom mission) I got pwnt.

ya anyway.. I was thinking more about using one of those beautifull freighters... the poseidon class was the name?? mmmm

I wanted to modify the looks of one of those and use it as a miner ship to blow up large fliying rocks jojojo :P

You could always have a sequence, say, you're being flow in a transport to your next assignment, enemies jump in, the pilot someone becomes unable to fly ship, and you wind up piloting the Argo/Elysium to the capship, while staying clear of enemy ships and the like.

I had a dream that I was piloting a Sathanas and destroying an Arcadia station, Hecates, Orions, Collosus, etc. It also had an afterburner for some reason. But then I was attacked by fighters and I tried to dogfight them but couldn't, then I realized I had turrets to take care of them. But then there was a huge object in the mission, named "Solar System" which was the size of an actual Solar System - and it had a sun and a huge planet, and I crashed into it and died.

Sure you are not playing FS too much?? XD

anyway.... fast question!: did someone actually saw a sathanas or cap ship bombarding some plannet surface in this game?? I wonder if that was one of those lost dreams I had too, back when i was still trapped by FS.

The only planetary bombardment we know of took place at the Devastation of Vasuda... and even that has only been depicted in the (excellent) fan-made cutscene by IceyJones.

No Saths have been witnessed laying waste to planets (although I don't doubt that they could).

Please not a Sathanas!  They were meant for nuking stars, not bombarding planets.  Lucifers are the real planet killers.

damn would love to see a mission where you should stop a lucifer from bombarding a civ plannet ::OOOOOO

and not just destroying the beams or whatever they use to attack... but actually not being able to stop it and watching you allied fleet getting in the way of the DEEEAAAADDDLY beams which (would otherwise) lay waste of the entire plannet!!!

AHHHH thats a lovely ending!!! :P

Why wouldn't a Sath attempt to bombard a planet?

Please keep in mind that the Lucifer was armed with beams in FS2. Beams. The Flux Cannons were probably changed by :v: and turned into beams. There are so many inconsistencies in the passage between FS1 and FS2, I don't know why we can't consider the fact that the Lucifer had two beam cannons...the Sathanas has 4 extremely powerful beams, well enough to devastate a planet.

There's no canon evidence stating that the Sathanas were only supposed to nuke stars. As far as I know they should be able to conduct planetary bombardments.

Have an invisible SJD Sathanas about 500km away, make a beam cannon be rendered 600km ( realisticly, you wouldn't see it that far/further anyway ). The SJD Sathanas above the large planet skybox. Anyway, I should have a vid like that in about 1-2 days.

P.S. Using cutscene sexps for a more realistic effect/feel.

It´s just that the idea came up like.... a rolling BIG rolling stone, and the only thing I could think of was Indiana screaming RUN FOREST XD
...and anyway folowing rules was never my speciality either...

I actually made a mission where you have to stop a Ravana from attacking a planet. I used just a large planet background (there were no skyboxes back when I made the mission) and used some radar stealthed cargo containers as the targets.

You've also used a Ravana? lol...

My mission went even further...I've added a planet defense system that takes the Ravana down if the player manages to do a certain thing...

It hasn't been playtested by others so I don't know if the difficulty might be too easy or too hard

Haven't you heard of mediafire? Also HLP is good for uploading missions. In fact there's an option to that end in the post reply settings (under additional options©)
