Title: The Babylon Project 3.4b freeze
Post by: Jake on April 27, 2008, 12:33:54 pm
The Babylon Project freezes on the first picture in the program (the blue one where is some credits etc.).
I tried both 3.4a and 3.4b.

Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo (1.50 GHz)
Video card: Mobile Intel 965 Express Chipset Family
RAM speed and memory: 667 MHz, 2 GB
Monitor: 1280 x 800

I want to play TBP :(

If someone can fix this, it will (maybe) help me with some other games too!

Something tells me it's going to be your video card.  Intel cards problems have been reported frequently.  Get the latest drivers.  Make sure you have it set to OpenGL and use a 4:3 resolution (1024x768 for instance).  If none of that works you might try Kara's D3D build which I don't have a link to at the moment.  D3D isn't supported anymore but that build is posted somewhere in the TBP forum.

Aye. Getting anything FreeSpace related running on an Intel graphics card, even with the latest drivers, is painful at best. I too do not have a link to the Direct3D build at the moment, but let's hope karajorma-sensei himself stumbles upon this thread to provide a link.

Yup. Editing video settings make no effect.
KaraJorma, I want that D3D build!
I order you to chat here! :hopping: :D

Shsh, now. You don't say things like that to an administrator. Either he reads this thread and provides a link or not. Though I suppose I can also try to find it somewhere.

Ok ok, I'm sorry.

Here's the link he provided in another thread.  D3D_Exes (http://www.freespacefaq.com/Misc-Downloads/Builds/BtRL_D3D_Exes.zip)

Those builds are a little old actually and probably won't work well in multiplayer. They should be good enough to test if D3D works though.

I'd already put building a D3D enabled set of builds on my to-do list for today anyway though. They're actually compiling as I type. :) I'll edit my post once they're ready.

EDIT : Newer versions uploaded to the same place.

Weird... TBP doesn't work even with the D3D build... It still freezes...

Did you remember to select Direct3D from the Launcher's Video tab?

Yes.

Hmm. Certain firewalls might throw popups about the build trying to connect to the Interwebs when the game is starting up and effectively clog the game up. Either run TBP in windowed mode to see if this is happening or just manually add the build to the firewall's rule list.

I was thinking the same thing but that normally doesn't happen until after you select a multiplayer pilot.  Try running the debug build and see if you get anything.  Starting to think corrupt file or an old version of OpenAL.

Wow. TBP works now, when I added it to my firewall list. Thanks Lobo!
Now I can finally go to shoot some boneheads. :D :D :D

Says you. I've had it happening during the splash screen (on TBP and FSO in general), and with Comodo and F-pieceo'****-Secure. And now that I thought of it, it has happened with Gangsters 2 as well. Originally took me a good while to figure out.
