Hi,
Many thanks to all involved in producing this amazing project.
A quick question I’ve not seen covered elsewhere. When playing, the ship textures only seem to be displayed at their full detail (i.e. as shown in the models on the Tech Room) when my own ship is very close (within 15 units or so). Prior to that the models pass through a couple of stages of increasing detail. Is there a way to set FSO so I can view the full detail ships at any distance?
Settings as below, turning –jpgtga on or off makes no apparent difference.
C:\Games\FreeSpace2\fs2_open_3_6_9.exe -mod mediavps -spec -glow -env -jpgtga -mipmap -missile_lighting -dualscanlines -targetinfo –orbradar
System info:
Intel Core 2 Duo [email protected] Ghz
2,048 MB Memory
Nvidia 8600GTS running 163.75 Forceware driver.
Many thanks,
Raf

LOD settings (Level of Detail) exist to prevent hardware from working overtime to render things at a distance. I'm not sure if there even is a way to override them. You can try turning up your texture quality on the video card drivers and disabling mpimapping.

Are you talking about textures or actual model detail? Both can be turned up by going into Options->Detail and turning up Model Detail and 3D Hardware Textures (or just select a higher preset detail setting).

That did the trick. My apologies. I was under the impression that the launcher settings overrode the ingame settings.
Thank you both for taking the time.
