Title: off-center targeting brackets
Post by: argent on May 03, 2008, 03:02:23 pm
ok, i got an issue in-game...not sure if this has anything to do with my Intel integrated graphics (game runs fine btw, even in mission), but the targeting brackets are off center of the craft

could this have to do with my widescreen resolution?  i have it set at 1680x1050

This has been fixed a while back. But I forgot what the build was. Can someone point this guy in the right direction?

It's because of running freespace in wide screen resolution, so that answers your question.

It is usually highly recommended to use forced 4:3 resolutions, even if it results in black bars around the screen. But if you insist, a build with widescreen support (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,52260.0.html).

Edit: ****ing typo fixed.

why exactly, other then the misalignment bug?

HUD gauges will get stretched, and your fov will be strange, but now that the misalignment bug is fixed and with a bit of other tweaking to the fov (and eventually hud gauge customization I'm working on), this 'highly recommended' doesn't have to be quite as 'highly' any more  :)

That's what I also had in mind. But until something is done for the HUD and all the interface art in general, I still prefer to keep it 4:3, so that it'll look convincing.

The widescreen fix has been committed and recent trunk builds should have it too, right?  Or is it still on Taylor's plate of stuff to look over before it gets committed?

Yes, it's been in trunk for a month or two now.

And my targeting reticule is misaligned on some ships. I am using 1280*1024.

Which build are you using? I tested using 1280 x 1024 (in window mode) and couldn't see any problems.

I think that's pre-widescreen fix isn't it?  Not that that's a widescreen resolution, but I'd check with a newer build anyway just to make sure.  1280x1024 isn't 4:3, even if it's not widescreen.  It's actually shifted from 4:3 in the other direction, being closer to 1:1.  Might as well try this build (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,53667.0.html).

That one has the evil wing bug. I'll try SVN now that it's fixed.

Isn't 1280x1024 5:4?

It does have the wing bug, but it's been mantised and is being worked on.  I just posted that one today though straight from SVN, it has some multi fixes and the swarm fix.

Isn't 1280x1024 5:4?

Right, which is closer to 1:1 than 4:3, which is closer than 16:9.

2:1, 16:9, 4:3, 5:4, 1:1
