I don't get any shiny ships that reflect nebulae etc. They are all dull. I believe I lack env maps, or at least some launcher flag. My flags:
-mod mediavps -spec -glow -env -jpgtga -mipmap -missile_lighting -dualscanlines -targetinfo -orbradar -rearm_timer -ballistic_gauge -ship_choice_3d -3dwarp -warp_flash -fps -ambient_factor 0 -no_emissive_light -spec_exp 11 -spec_point .6 -spec_static .8 -spec_tube .4 -ogl_spec 80
3.6.10b VPs.

I don't think they're even supposed to be that shiny. They are somewhat shiny, but not complete mirrors. I get a difference between enabling and disabling environment mapping.

What's your video card? And you don't have any reflectiveness at all - the ships aren't even shiny?
Try using the tag that uses shine maps as environment maps (although I'm not sure if that feature is depreciated or not).

I have a 9550, and until I got the 3.6.10bs, everything was peachy. It happens running both the 3.6.9 and .10 .EXEs.

What ships does this occur on? All user-made ships will revert to retail textures because the beta vps have a texture name change.

It seems to happen only with FSPort, I'll check with other mods. You'll notice that this (http://i31.tinypic.com/10ztkjo.png) image has no problems, that's because the MediaVPs are the only mod selected.
