Title: Newbie question - exe??? this aint windows
Post by: loki*pi on May 09, 2008, 04:42:57 am
Im new to Ubuntu - was looking for a nice game.  Downloaded Babylon v3.4b.  Didn't notice it was an exe file until after downloading - 8 hrs.  What do I do with an exe file, I thought this was a Linux game?

I'm looking for installation instructions but . . .

Problem is that while the game will run perfectly well under Linux we don't have anyone capable of sticking together a Linux installer who has the time to do so. If you can actually run the installer under Wine you can then grab the Linux executables and run the game natively.

What we really need is someone to step forward and compile builds for the other two platforms the game supports and get it into an installer for those platforms.

double click an exe. Then when prompted click run to start the installer

Windows is not the only operating system in the world you know. Things don't work the same on Linux or Mac OS X

Ubuntu ... Linux
It isn't very wise to just run executables in Linux, my good man.

loki*pi, my good man. You probably missed this thread (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,40036.0.html). A proper Linux version will come out once TBP 3.4 is final. Really final. Until then... well, maybe you could install it with WINE and then try to follow the instructions on that thread. I'm really not sure, since I've hardly touched any Linuxes.

Edit: OK, kara beat me to it. If there are contradictions between our posts, listen to him instead of me.

He could quite probably (not sure how easy) build the exes by himself.

Sorry, no linux or macs here or I would build installers for those Operating Systems and I have not the time or resources to get going on those operating systems.

Maybe someone else can step up to the plate.
