Okay, i've been wanting to upgrade to 3.6.10 for a while, but I'm not cetrain of the steps on how to do that.
I used Turey's installer to get the 3.6.9 on my computer, (running Linux).
Can anyone point me to the guide on how to do that?

There are some 3.6.10 builds on the Recent Builds board, and possibly on the Cross-Platform Development board. Get one of them( and download the 3.6.10 Beta MediaVPs).

This (http://www.freespacefaq.com/Misc-Downloads/Builds/Is-Player-Build.7z) build has given me the best playthrough, and taylor's 3/14 Xt build has widescreen and normal maps. Try either.

can't you just use turey's installer and check the box saying you already ran it sometime back.

Maybe, but I for one am not quite sure just what builds the Installer downloads. There should be Linux and Mac versions of 3.6.9 but 3.6.10 might be a different story. Of course, one can always give it a shot.

No, that's the 10/07 build I believe, which is way too old.
