As you've seen i have been asking a lot of questions lately and if I'm annoying you in anyway then I'm sorry (No I'm not XD). But, this is one of the questions that has been bugging me for quite a while...Is there a campaign or mission out there that pits the biggest. the baddest and the awesomely large capital ships against eachother in a struggle, or a kind of a BOE mission.
particularly Inferno ships(Since they are the biggest ones I've seen so far). I have been checking in the inferno forums and been seeing murmurs of something called "Solar Wars". Now I've been looking in every crevice and hole that i could find but haven't had much success(Yes i used the search function).
-
Don't play Solar Wars. It is very buggy, and I can't beat most mission without cheating to beat the bugs.
And if you really want to play it, get it here (http://www.freewebs.com/neo-terra/Solar_Wars_Chapter_1.zip).
As for BoEs, they are the simplest FRED missions to make, simply tell each ship to attack each other, and beam-free everything (there is an option to make this the default)
-
Ahh yes. Well you see, i have no FRED experience what so ever...i tried it once and was completely stumped by the interface and the difficulty of making one simple mission
Oh and i am extremely extremely lazy...
EDIT: So i download the zip and....Yeah, i'm only familiar with VP files and i think the readme is meant for the retail INFR1 mod...so....Could someone please pack this into a VP file?
-
Not really hard. CTRL+Click a bunch of times, Shift+S and change orders a bunch of times, go to Mission Specs, beam-freed by default. Done.
Or you could go into FRED, click 'Help" and click "Help Topics". They actually have a helpful help topic.

I have a version that may work. It's posted on freespacemods.net. Here is a link.

How did I miss that? Or did you just upload it?
-
From the upload date, I'd say he just uploaded it.
-
Ok so i jury rigged a solution which kinda didn't work in a way since the nightmare ships didn't show up, and there was some other bugs like the utopia not jumping out in some missions and stuff..but i guess those bugs has been there ever since the beginning....
i'm sorry but that version you gave me just gives me a bunch of errors before even starting up...
-
I just uploaded the version I had. I get no errors with it. I've played it with FSO 3.6.9 with the 3.6.8 media VPs and 3.6.10 with the 3.6.10 beta media VPs. Just unzip the file into your freespace2 folder. You should see a folder labelled Solar_Wars. Just select this as the mod in the FreeSpace Open launcher. Several things are important for it to work. You have to have the Inferno mod in a folder labelled InfernoR1 or modify the mod file to whatever your inferno file is. You must have the Inferno SCP patch labelled INF_2Patch.vp in your inferno mod file. Don't use the unofficial inferno patch labeled INF_1Patch.vp because it will not work with it.
-
Ahh you see, i think i know where i did wrong there...i removed the patch because the readme said so... And i thought you had made that readme
-
So i played through Solar Wars and sadly it did not include this famous Gargant that i've been hearing about....Soooo...Anyone up for the challenge of making a small mission including every capital ship in one giant battle?
-
*facepalm*
Give me two minutes.
-
Why would you WANT to... besides, the Gargant is a sort of mysterious, unknown force that's currently in INFSCP lockdown.
-
There is a really crappy old one released.
-
Mission here. It would've been too much work to make each ship attack each other, so I just put the Icanus pwning everything over destroyer class. Goes in "<Inferno Folder>\data\missions".
EDIT: The old version had a flaw. I put the player coming out of the Icanus, forgetting that it was 20km in length. You come out over 9000 metres from the battlefield.
EDIT2: I didn't factor in the fact that it takes the Gigas 4.5 minutes to explode. And it fires for the duration of the explosion. Even a carrier takes like 45 seconds, by that time the Icanus has wasted a Punisher shot.
I've had to re-upload the mission like 7 times now, trying to fix it.

Downloaded, will try immediately
-
It really sucks. I'm not changing it again. What happens, is that you have to enable time compression to skip the boring parts.
-
Hehe. not what i expected, but then again. if i ever get around to learn fredding i could make something with this scenario as a base :P
Oh and the gigas still firing after it had been blown up did look weird....although
Where is this gargant?!?! XD
-
I don't know if that last line was sarcasm.
If it wasn't:
THE GARGANT ISN'T ****ING IN INFR1!!!!!!!
-
Well said :P
CC, you could have just locked beam-locked the Gigas upon destruction...
-
But I was too lazy and had already spent an hour more than I wanted to. A.k.a I spent an hour and five minutes on it.
-
See, that's why i was put off by FRED. It took you way too long to make something that small...
Oh and you don't have to swear, i did not know the gargant wasn't in INFR1...
-
But I was too lazy
You should try to FRED in TextEdit (NotePad) sometime. That is what I've had to do :shaking:

OK. You are really lazy, it's in the tech room. And it doesn't usually take that long to make a BoE, it's just a complication arising from having 4 20km+ ships and having them not get blown up.
