Title: Republican makes pre-emptive excuses for sex scandal

Quote
Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty is most likely in a lot of hot water today for a comment he made during a radio show. Pawlenty joked that he wished his wife's desire for him (in the carnal sense) was as intense as her love of fishing.

Gov. Tim Pawlenty spent the fishing opener with his wife, Mary Pawlenty, on Big Pelican Lake in Breezy Point, Minn.

If an aside uttered by Pawlenty on Mike Max's radio show on WCCO-AM is any indication, they may very well have spent their every waking moment fishing.

"I have a wife who genuinely loves to fish. I mean, she will take the lead and ask me to go out fishing, and joyfully comes here," the governor said before adding, "She loves football, she'll go to hockey games and, I jokingly say, 'Now, if I could only get her to have sex with me.'"

Well now he's got an excuse if he gets caught banging his secretary. :p

Seriously though, apparently he's getting some flak for it. Can't think why as long as his wife laughed about it.

It amazes me how people pretend that politicians are at a higher level than the rest of us.. how they arent inclined to cheat and steal with all that power at their fingertips.

The Russians don't, for example, but then again, that might be at least part of the problem with their government.

i think it has more to do with the fact that politicians belonging to a certain party (like said politician in this thread) make their entire careers by spewing christian-values-this christian-values-that and want to force what they spew as "the right way to be" (based on their twisted version of christianity) on others and then cannot even live up to it themselves

Well, anyone who dictates 'moralistic' behaviour to other people should, at the very least, be expected to live up to those morals.

That said, I suspect that this will get whipped up into something far bigger than it is, not getting nookie from the wife is hardly a rare complaint in long-term husbands.

Well if they are going to preach it they should strive to live up to them. It is impossible to live your life constantly living up to morals and never failing at it. The inability for anyone to live up to moral behavior in no way invalidates them. People who dont live up to any standards seem to avoid the criticism for ditching their wife for a man or having flings with paiges, but then again they dont say that behavior is counter-productive either.

I frankly dont give a **** either way, but its angering to see when somebody sees someone trying to live a moral life and trying to get others to and just because he is unable to, they condemn his moral principles as failure and impossible, so instead the criticizers life up to none. On that note, you might not care about extramarital action, and dont think its wrong or a big deal, but im sure you wife will.

Let me put it this way. If you cheat on your wife then you're a cheater. If you cheat on your wife while telling others not to then you're a cheater and a hypocrite.

So who is worse?

Well between those two choices then the obvious is to pick the one who is not a hypocrite.  Nothing is worse than telling other people to adhere to one standard and then not expect the same from yourself.

I'd describe that as creating a diversion.
