Title: Nameplates are boned
Post by: Tracer on May 14, 2008, 02:08:54 pm
I'm playing a fresh install of Freespace 2 (from Turey's installer), but the Terran nameplates are appearing as blank white textures. Any suggestions?

Here's my command line, if that helps:X:\FS\fs2_open_3_6_9.exe -mod mediavps -spec -glow -env -jpgtga -mipmap -2d_poof

Are you experiencing the issue with ships or anything? And what graphics card and drivers are you using? This sounds a tad bit like the Evil Zebra Ships of Doom syndrome, which can often be cured with this build (http://fs2source.warpcore.org/exes/latest/taylor/20071028-win32.rar).

Hmm, scratch that: the GTD Carthage had it but in the next mission the NTC Trinity's nameplate showed up fine. Some of the ship textures were all wrong (like, it looked as though the textures were on the wrong part of the ship - is that what you mean by zebra ships of doom?) but switching to DirectX fixed that. I'm using a GeForce 8800 GT - not sure about the drivers, it isn't my computer. I'll look into it.

With zebra ships I meant something along the lines of this (http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b330/imyourpapie/screen0049.gif).

But eww. Direct3D breaks more stuff than it fixes. I'd advise to really check the drivers and update them or something. Old drivers could also explain the part about messed up textures.

DirectX is not supported by anybody at this point, I would suggest you try using newer builds or maybe some of the Xt builds (see the recent builds subforum in the Freespace Source Code Project forum).
