Title: Expectations for ST3?
Post by: Aardwolf on May 17, 2008, 12:55:01 pm
July 29, 2008... The current scheduled release date for Starship Troopers 3.

What can we expect? Hopefully not a cheap horror flick like the 2nd one... They've brought back the original actor who played Rico, which I guess is a plus. Any fans of the original hoping this isn't a disappointment?

Yes, though movies series tend to go down hill at number three, except Lord of the Rings, which did well, and ST2 sucked badly.  ST1 on the other hand, now that was a strange example of the film being better than the book.

I'd say neither is better; the movie is just different.

Good point.

But yes, I am hoping this is not dissapointment.  #2 was ok, they could have come up with a better storyline then that tho. But seeing the Telsa Coils was worth it.

Roughnecks: Starship Troopers Chronicles. It was sort of a mesh between Verhoeven's movie, Heinlein's original novel, and a bit of creative license thrown in for the hell of it. In other words, it was all kinds of awesome.

If you're interested and got the bandwidth to spare, I highly recommend checking it out. The entire run (right up until it's cancellation at a major cliff-hanger) has be uploaded onto YouTube by these (http://www.youtube.com/user/yoghurtrancher) two (http://www.youtube.com/user/Rye78) beautiful mother****ers. First part of the first episode cluster (the series is divided into 'campaigns' of about 5 episodes each) can be watched here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c_9moZ0ZzhY&feature=related). Enjoy!

Those CGI effects look so subpar.. like a low budget TV show or something... definitely not professional job.

Once again murdered by a complete and total lack of powered armor.

EDIT: If by animation, you mean actually animated, there was a Starship Troopers anime as well, but the only thing I really know about it was the stark resemblence the helmets on the series' armor bore to a Halo MJOLNIR suit's.

I watched part of it and thought it was kind of bad. There is one quote I'll always remember:

"No wonder we're losing the war, everyone is too busy ****ing instead of fighting"

Brilliant.

This is actually pretty good, and I pass along my recommendation on top of Mefustae's. I just got one complaint. Pluto Campaign first, wtf's next? :p I can't seem to find something to point me in that direction.

Pluto Campaign -> Hydora Campaign -> Tophet Campaign -> Tesca Campaign -> Zephyr Campaign -> Klendathu Campaign -> Homefront Campaign

Spoiler:
Starts off with a skirmish/extermination on Pluto, before they find that the bugs came in from elsewhere, after which they tail a transport and discover the pit-stop on Hydora. Tophet is sort of a proxy-war for the Bugs, introducing the infested Skinnies as Bug 'allies', while Tesca depicts the troopers exploring Dagobah and kicking Yoda's ass. Zephyr is an "asteroid" the Roughnecks crash into en route to a mission, before making a rather shocking discovery. Klendathu covers, obviously, the invasion of the Bug homeworld and discovery of a Queen Bug. And finally, war hits the homefront when the Bugs attack Earth itself.

the lack of starships perhaps. the deployment scenes were onbe of the best parts of the original st, and they were totally absent. it was also less epic. also the first movie had better characters. st2 lacks those things.

also the first movie had better characters. st2 lacks those things.
And that's really saying something, considering that each and every character in Starship Troopers was wholly unlikeable.

Well, except Michael Ironside as Lt. Rasczak. He was so badass it's a wonder the movie didn't explode.

frankly when i first heard of the movie and saw the previews, i thought starship troopers was gonna suck, horribly. just the title of it was just way too stupid and generic for my tastes. then i saw it and the movie totally kicked ass.
Title: Re: Expectations for ST3?
Post by: Mefustae on May 19, 2008, 03:54:27 am
It's like they filmed an ass getting kicked for 80 hours, folded the film in on itself until it was only 2 hours long, and sent the result to the threatres.

I watched 3 mins of the 2nd film before adopting the fetal position and crying myself to sleep. I didn't like the plot, soundtrack, actors / acting (lack of), sets or production. The book rocked for something that was written in the 50's. ST1 was pleasing and the series equally if not moreso. I'm expecting 3 to be better than 2 but not by much. I hope i'm wrong though.

It's mostly utter ****, but the religion parody is hilarious. Especially the last few minutes. Otherwise, it's forgettable but waaaay better than ST2 which wasn't forgettable, only trauma-inducing.

OK GODDAMNIT.

HERE IS THE MOVIE. SPOIL IT IF YOU WANT TO. THERE'S NOTHING INTERESTING ANYWAYS:

Spoiler:
Rico and his bunch of idiots are hanging around in some base. Something happens and people die and bugs attack and death and complete disaster. An intelligence officer (black) blah blah blah blah. court martial blah blah blah, Sky Marshal and his bunch of ****ing idiots somehow get stranded somewhere. By this point I am already drunk. The movie lags.

Ok then something happens, I am not quite sure what, but the Sky Marshal & Co. are in desert and they
are
being
STALKEEEEEEEEEEED
by the bugs. This is where the religious **** kicks in and it is just painful. I decide to drink more. it is the only way this movie is so far watchable. but oh no the intelligence is TELEKINESIS AND MIND CONTROL keeping the population in chekc lies and lies and damned lies

Rico is executed, but pranked! no he is not, he is taken to the MARAUDER program. Apparently fake executions are something our roughneck just grunts at. Nudity ensues, but we only see tits. So if you are looking at this for gay porn, don't bother. Lack of erect penises etc. Whatever. This is just ****ing boring. Drink more.

Well the idiots are still in desert, babbling about religious crap, bugs kinda attack them, blah blah blah. They finally reach some point and sky marshal goes ape****. Brainsucking ensues. Oh my god.

Well now, at the very last moment, the MARAUDERs, Rico leading the way of course, descend from heaven they just seriously magically find these apparently important people and send like 5 dudes to save them after what is either weeks or hours because the movie is not very clear on this what the ****. The last five minutes are a potpurri of religious fervour, prayer and robots killing bugs. But it's anticlimatic necause it just ends. Yeah the sky marshal and pretty much everyone is dead. Dead dead dead. Except the two girls in sky marshal's group, they survive by chanting prayers. Brainbug dies. Everyone leaves. Some propaganda. End. I am wasted.

there

still better than ST2 but that's pretty much the same as gonorrhea being better than syphilis.

Wow you're the first human being I've ever heard utter those words (well, type the words).
Never seen 2 but ST1 was a lousy movie to begin with. Nice spaceships and explosions, but beyond that . . . meh. And come on, the hot girl dies. Where's the justice in that?

Between Denise Richard's character and her? Please come on. Why didn't the brain bug vacuum her head out. Oh wait, but she did get a 12 inch blade through the shoulder, then received no medical attention for the rest of the movie. But she's okay.

My favorite part is when the Marauders appear. That part rocked. Well. Up until the 'jump plasma bomb' part.

And strangely, the song is not bad.

Pft. You watch too much anime, there's more to women than breasts.
And most of the breasts you go googley-eyed over are enhanced with plastic or are hand drawn because they're not real (in either case).

The original Starship Troopers was great. It is so great that the Singapore government now omits Dizzy getting impaled (no offence there). :drevil:

When I look at the warrior bugs and compare it to Shivans, I'm vaguely reminded of the Mara...

Oh yeah, I saw the 3D animation. It was pretty nice to watch, and the end credits music was pretty good too.
